It's not an accounting trick but an accounting rule on writing assets to fair market value (part of the merger process between AOL and Time Warner). The real stinker here is that their stock price is in the toilet. X| In 52 weeks AOL-Time Warner stock has gone from $58.51 to $18.82 per share. Wall Street has voted that the merger was a bad idea. About the only case you can make is that by hacking this program, he is not buying another package and thus hurting that company. But that is REALLY REALLY REALLY pushing it (to the point of absurdity). This is one of the few cases I am VERY liberal. He already paid for the right to use the software. 1/ NT protects itself from resource leaks and so if I leak GDI resources, the code runs fine on my machine, but dies quickly under W98. I tend to go for char * data; which clearly shows that the * is a seperate entity which modifys the meaning of the former, and aids in defining the latter. Even if I could, I would not say staticconstchar data, so why would I not also space out the * ? The fact that multiple variables on the one line each need the *, if they are pointers, is another reason I would not space them as you have. However, while I can smell a poll coming on ( and if you're reading Chris, I'd prefer a poll on if people use STL and why/why not), it is, as you say, ultimately a matter of choice. Here are some of my ideas for your word processor: 1. Allow for "developer languages" plugins which a: formats the code (like in VS etc.) b: does not flag code as misspelt. This has been done in Word but it is a mission to get working properly. 2. Keep it simple. Word does too much for you and ends up cocking things up, especially with formatting. 3. Let us view the "source" of the document to manipulate formatting directly. Like an HTML view on a WYSIWYG editor. 4. Mail merge? Who the hell needs mail merge! Get rid of or don't code the 99% of Word that 99% of people don't use. 5. Have a changeable setting for what happens to pasted text. I am getting gatvol (fed up) with having to always click that Smart Tag to tell Word I wan't my text pasted without original formatting. What file format are you going to use btw?
