Buy Arksansas stone sharpener (large), also long time ago, I saw two sticks made of some kind of polymer (or rubber?) with diamond dust embeded in it. That one you would use to sharpen japanese swords, tanto knifes and knifes made of damascus steel - to srarpen and not damage rest of the blade. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what's manufacturer. Hovever here is excerpt from www.coldsteel.com [^]web site: For stainless steels: If the edge requires repair (to remove chips or dinks) or if the cantle has to be reestablished one should begin with a coarse silicon carbide stone (Norton's Crystolon Bench Stone). Initial sharpening should be done with a medium silicon carbide (Norton's Crystolon) or medium aluminum oxide stone (Norton's India Stone). To further refine the edge a fine aluminum oxide stone (Norton's India Stone) would be the next step, followed by a Soft Arkansas for final sharpening. If an extremely refined edge is desired, follow the Soft Arkansas with a Hard Arkansas or 6000-8000 grit Japanese Water Stone. Any ceramic system will work if there is not going to be a lot of material to be removed along the edge (the Sharpmaker by Spyderco is especially good for serrated models). For carbon steels: The same procedure as listed above will work for carbon steels but we have had better results using only the Japanese water stones (Japanese water stones can be found at most woodworking supply stores and catalogs). We suggest beginning with an 800 or 1000 grit water stone and progressing through a 1200-1400 grit and finishing with a 6000-8000 grit stone. Rolled edges: A rolled edge can be sharpened to its original configuration by using a slack belt on a belt sander (320-400 grit belt) to get a consistent burr and then polishing the burr off with a buffer or leather strop. One can also simply redefine the edge by establishing a cantle on it as outlined above. SDK Maintenance Programmer

Actually, I was about 16 when I got album as a present. Of course, as SF fan, I love it instantly. Yes I remember the book - illustrations were actually so good that after the album I saw couple of H.G. Wells book editions with those. SDK Maintenance Programmer

Finally, I found "Jeff Wayne's War of The Worlds" on MP3. I haven't listened that album since I originally sold my vinyl copy. It still sounds great - at least to me. Does anynone else remember this one? Perhaps I'm too old compared to rest of the CPians? Anyway "Forever Autumn" is still great song. SDK Maintenance Programmer

  • What practices do you use/have you tried?
    A Aleksandar

I second that. I feel your pain. SOme of the code I maintain was written with famous BFI methodology (Brute Force and Ignorance). We actually tried modest entry into XP, and it seems promising, but only in some cases. I am actually huge Refactoring evangelist, and I saw that actually works, just I need to keep trying - it will get going eventually. SDK Maintenance Programmer

Seems that site doesn't work - but when it does, can some actually check names? Does it cover all republic branches of SFRJ or just Slovenia? What about historical perspective, I mean what about OZNA, SDB, KOS, VOS, SID - are they mentioned. Yes, it's amazing that such a small country had so many secret services. P.S. Thanks for the link, I wish I could afford it! By the way Austrian made and european military used Pinzgauer (sorry I lost the link, by I was riding personally in it it rocks) is way cool, it is 6x6 and has independent movement axles. I wish I could buy one as military surplus, than put it in the order - this is awesome car for going outdoors and camping etc. SDK Maintenance Programmer

Finally, someone had to say it - BMW X5 - except it's cool it is too moch lowered down to go really off road. And I've seen Merc ML trying to cope with me off road - guy was also terified of rocks shooting from gravel road and bushes can really scratch your nice showoff car, dont they? I have Nissan Pathfinder 3.5 (base model-just with brushguard in front), which behaves reasonably well in the city and off road, and consumption is not bad for a such large engine. But Range Rover, ummm yummy, than H1, H2 (hummer) - I would rather buy range rover any time than X5. It doesnt look to cool, but it works were it should. SDK Maintenance Programmer

  • Anyone using UML?
    A Aleksandar

Yes, I'm using it. Yes it's worth learning it. I cannot let myself in in long rant why it should be used, but it goes back to well designed and architectured pieces of software. Does Rational overcharging it - you bet. They have excellent set of tools (and people working for them) but prices are prohibitive. When I've worked on some project which involved reverse engineering of some code(C++) GDPro 5.2 (now under Embarcadero) is proved to be more intuitive, better with MS VS6.0 and fairly cheaper (I think that they are right now almost expensive as Rational) so I ended up with a copy which I'm still using from time to time. Other thing worth trying might be Visual UML (I don't have link right now) but it's not as good for reverse and round trip engineering. I tried Visio for EA - it's slower than RR, I don't like it. I hope this helped you (in any way). SDK Maintenance Programmer

  • Have you Java'd recently?
    A Aleksandar

JUST SAY NO. That was one of reasons I left from previous company (Switching from MS/DCOM to J2EE). Also applies to the VB - I'm rolling in pain whenever I get any piece of code to maintain. That causes them to give that task to someone else. Socialism and Multi-Platform solutions are noble ideas, but they don't work - believe me -I experienced them both! SDK Maintenance Programmer

  • Anyone running on Alpha
    A Aleksandar

Well, I would like to do that again very much. Here, a bit of bittersweet memories: in late 1996, I got DEC Alpha PC on 333 Mhz, it had many features that normal (no name) PCs will get years later, you could boot from cd or internal/external scsi device, etc. It was running NT 4.0, SQL 6.5, and VC++ 4.1, all alpha proc. releases, and it was faster than any pc in the lab. I almost cried when we finished project and I had to return it back (it was actually leased from DEC). In 1997, DEC shop here (BC) was dismantling and selling brand new units (555 Mhz) internally to the employees for the $2100 CDN. I found too late someone inside to buy it for me - they were all gone. Awesome machine - I would like to have something like it again on my desk as a second PC. Damn Compaq killed it!:((
