There is one drug I know that works - ethinylestradiol (complete regrowth in about 4-5 years). However, it does have one or two side-effects... :omg: Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

Why would msdev.exe have an open connection?MsDev add-ins such as WndTabs[^] and my own ResOrg[^] check for updated versions over the internet, which may be the reason for the message you saw. Whilst this sort of feature is generally a good thing for users, any responsible author should provide a means to customise or disable it if the user prefers. It's done.....that I'm off to the pub for a project team bash now (and a meal afterwards) so I won't be answering any replies to this thread too quickly! Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

It's done...My transition was finally announced at work at midday today. The Engineering Director briefed the Engineers, whilst the MD's PA Lisa talked to all the girls individually. The rest of the company received an email statement: Last year Andy Metcalfe was diagnosed with a birth defect called Gender Dysphoria (also known as Gender Identity Disorder or Transsexualism), which causes sufferers to have an internal gender identity which is at odds with their physical appearance. It is now recognised that psychological treatments are ineffective on this condition (there’s no “cure”), and therefore the accepted treatment is transition to the inner gender of the sufferer, using hormone therapy and other medical treatments. Andy has been receiving such treatment since earlier this year. With effect from 1st January 2003, Andy will be legally known as Anna-Jayne Metcalfe and will be treated as a female member of staff. The Company has willingly offered its full support in this difficult situation and expects all members of staff to be similarly supportive and understanding. Please remember that despite the obvious differences in appearance, Anna and Andy are the same person. If you have any questions on this matter then please refer them to your Departmental Director. Andy/Anna is quite happy to discuss the condition and the issues which arise from it with anyone interested. So far, the reaction has been extremely positive, and I'm looking forward to putting the old me behind me after Christmas. :) Another hurdle bites the dust. :-D Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

That would be a little understandable if they could actually cook something edible. As it is, their food tastes like the cardboard it is...just about any late night kebab van could produce food of restaurant quality by comparison. ;P If I fancy a burger I'll go to a decent Burger Bar not anywhere like MacDonalds. At least they're likely to have actually heard of vinegar, pepper and mustard (I don't eat salt on my food). Anna :rose: "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

Refactoring 101peterchen wrote: Refactoring bears an important lesson: rather than throwing crap code away, and starting over, try to clean it up, fix a few bugs, clean up some more, add some feature. Rinse, repeat. In small steps, that always keep you a working product. That's so true. At the moment our product (Pharos - an acoustic tracking system) is currently evolving from a monolithic app to a componentised one, as a result of which a significant proportion of the code is being reworked. It's obvious to me that when you do this interfaces change, which causes major risk. The ability to support old interfaces and behaviour for a while (say 3 months) after the switchover reduces that risk significantly. This is even more important when there's a product release in the not too distant future. A little while ago this lesson was reinforced here when a co-worker (in our case an ex-team leader on another site!) hadn't learnt the same lesson and broke major functionality with an interface change without realising - or telling anyone. It wasn't particularly pleasant. Anna :rose: "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

VB kicks C++'s arseRoger Allen wrote: MP's! Pay a little low? Vote yourself a 20% increase! Oh and give yourself more holidays! No group of people whould be allowed to vote on their own pay. There should be a non-MP chaired committee to do that. I'd forgotten about that! It seems to me that the Government really can't complain about requests for higher pay rises from the public sector. The thing that annoys me is that the Government appears to be saying upfront that they won't honour any agreement which is made but they don't like...but they want the firefighters to consider it binding. I think this sort of Thatcher-esque sabre-rattling only serves to make the situation far, far worse (and no, I don't like Union militancy either). Sooner or later we're going to have a big problem in this country with public sector rectruitment. Anna :rose: "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

VB kicks C++'s arsePersonally, I think anyone working in the public sector gets taken for granted by Government and paid accordingly. As a result there's a severe shortage of teachers, NHS staff and who knows what else - and sooner or later that's going to do serious damage to this country. At least in the private sector you can move to another company to improve your salary. Case in point: in June 1998 I moved from Racal Instruments Ltd to Sonardyne International Ltd. My salary rose from £24,000 pa + overtime (I was doing 60 hours a month) to £35,000 pa + bonus. How many public sector employees can do that??? Why is England so patheticYou've figured us out...we enjoy inventing ridiculous sports then sit back and laugh as rest of the world goes nutty over them. Of course, we have to make a token effort to participate, otherwise what we're up to would be a little too obvious... Cricket is our greatest accomplishment to date. ;) Anna :rose: "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

American to Canadian - Switch...Brit wrote: What I'm saying is that it seems that everyone likes to make the US the butt of jokes. There's nothing objectinable in this video, but it's a little more than coincidence that it is the US that ends up on the downside of jokes. Why is that? I think it's because people like to indulge a little bit in taking swipes at the US. I find that to be a little disconcerting that people derive satisfaction from that. No doubt, it would be different if the person on the video was saying "switch from Canadian to American". It wouldn't be quite as satisfying. Seriously, why is that -- other than the satisfaction of taking a small swipe at the US? I saw the same thing when I was in Scotland. A Scotish guy I met was constantly taking swipes at the British. Of course, I think the Scotish have a better reason to dislike the British than the world has a reason to enjoy taking swipes at the US. On the other hand, sometimes I think the jokes about Americans is a tax. It's a tax on the most powerful country in the world. When the British were a world power, no doubt they had to endure the same thing. Same with the Romans. It's the cost of working hard and becoming the only superpower. Everyone likes to take shots at the guy on top. But, it still gets a bit old after a while. I think you're spot on. US culture is all-pervasive throughout the world, and a lot of it is terrible (admit it: how many people think MacDonalds is a "good thing"? X|). Naturally that will make the US the but of jokes and digs - it comes with the territory. I just wish people wouldn't take it so seriously and be so in your face with their patriotism/nationalism as a result. Anna :rose: "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"
