  • Slow News Day?
    B Beth Mackenzie

Thinking of CNN. My parents have spent some time in China at a wedding recently. Now this was the first time that they have been to China, but according to them, but whilst in their hotel room. The television literally blacked out for the duration everytime the CNN channel (or any non-local channel) mentioned the 2oth anniversary of the TSM. Then suddenly reappeared when the clip was done. I for one am grateful for the media I have access to in the UK, and the Freedom Of Information act. I don't how long the authorities in China monitor/read ahead any broadcast, perhaps someone knows...?

A project - no (since the work can be endless), a task - yes. Do you adopt the Agile method of working? i.e. working in short iterations?

  • ITV in talks to move its Freeview channels onto subscription-only Sky
    B Beth Mackenzie

Primeval is supremo cheese (before it was lame cheese but has gone up in my estimation) and Jason Flemyng is dishy. ITV is going the same way as UKTV Gold, putting all the old programmes where only subscribers can reach them! I don't miss those old re-runs of Only Fools and Horses...

  • Tired of Eclipse
    B Beth Mackenzie

Hi Jim, I'm with you there... although i don't tend to use it often (but I will as we progress with our Eclipse integration, importing an existing application into the workbench is not obvious.. Anyway you could try the opensource Code::Blocks, it has a debug facility but requires configuration. Beth

  • Hello from Windows 7
    B Beth Mackenzie

Windows 7 is a very nice platform, the scientific startup screen is quite memorably serene too. We've recently discovered that the RC will last sometime into 2010. I was quite pleased when Visual Lint installed first time too, so it looks like I'm skipping Vista for next laptop!

It's typical of the media in the UK to inflate technophobic thinking. I would prefer if the energy was fed into the interruption National Identity Cards are going to cause in the future. Everytime new a piece of bureacratic legislation is added, my heart skips a beat!

  • VS2010 Rocks
    B Beth Mackenzie

It does rock, but not inside a Virtual machine with 2GB of memory, far too slow to use. I've been implementing MS-Build support for our Visual Lint integration product for the next edition of Visual Studio. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find where the "WebDeployPath" has disappeared to, even the MS-build schemas make no mention of them.

I remember using Lotus Notes a few years at a client site, it was like scrapping fingernails down a blackboard. Save me from my memories! X|

Like XP? Haven't you downloaded W7b yet? New Labour must change something, otherwise can you imagine the nervous ticks of the officials with nothing to do? (Not soapbox). Also, providing the Pope feels this 'new vein' is not a channel to sell his specially branded version of religious doctrine to the Brits, we'll be okay.

  • Recommendations please for wireless router
    B Beth Mackenzie

For home or business use? I suggest a Vigor router (we use a 2800VG) 4-port/+wifi. You're provided with a robust set of features, the firewall is also pretty good, we've had very few problems in our use. I've also previously configured the router to connect to an external secure company network. The downside for our wifi connections was not being able to assign names to MAC addresses.
