Did you compare? You need ANY processor "grading" tool that can compare with online lists of similar computers. SiSoft Sandra just sprang to my mind, but PC-Mark or others might work just as well. Age should have anything to with with it. I started programming in my early 40's (after a 22 year military career, no programming at all) and still doing it today. I'm sure there are organizations that would hire the 'young gun' over the 'seasoned cowboy' but in my experience, that's not the norm. If you know what you're doing, you're going to be doing it regardless of age/gender/color/etc.
