It really depends on what you are going to do with the machine. Dual-screen probably means you're developing and/or running office apps on it. In that case, the cheaper Intel Atom desktops won't be able to cut it. They can be had for 300 EUR and are suitable for internet surfing and basic office use, but not for games and CPU-heavy apps. The Via Nano and Nvidia Ion series are a _little_ higher end, but any Core2Duo will beat those anyway. I'd check out a few barebones, but the only manufacturer coming to mind is Shuttle - which you want to avoid. Hmm. You could check out the Mini-ITX-boards the web has to offer, as well as the corresponding cases. Here is the solution I finally implemented: I created a Resource Dictionary that contains the menu item icons I want to use. That gets all of the icons into one convenient container. Then I referenced the individual icon resources in my <MenuItem.Icon> markup. Here are the steps involved: I used Expression Design to create my XAML icons, one icon per layer. I gave each layer the name of the icon it held. Then I exported the Design file as XAML, setting the Document Format options to: -- Export as resource dictionary; -- Group by layers; and -- Output as drawing image. I left the effects options as they were. In VS 2008, I added the resource dictionary to my WPF project, and referenced the dictionary in App.xaml: <Application.Resources> <ResourceDictionary Source="MenuIcons.xaml" /> </Application.Resources> With that done, I simply reference the resource in the <MenuItem.Icon> markup for the window that contains the menu: <MenuItem Header="Open File"> <MenuItem.Icon> <Image Source="{StaticResource iconOpenFile}" /> </MenuItem.Icon> </MenuItem> David Veeneman www.veeneman.com

I assume your talking about the data access stuff here? ;) It's called hibernate because it provides persistance i.e. when your computer goes to sleep/turns off, it'll remember stuff when it wakes up.

Thanks for your feedback--it's very helpful. I've gotten sold on changing to the way you are doing it now. What I found persuasive was the argument that private methods are first-class members of an object. The are only private in order to hide their workings from the outside world, not because they are somehow inferior. As such, they should have the same access to an object's state as any other method. That makes a lot of sense to me. I've just refactored a project I'm working on to remove member-variable arguments, and I think it does simplify the code and make it easier to read. In my few excursions into independent work for hire, unrestricted source code was always a given. Except my last contract where I put restrictions (legal, not technical) on the source code. The company who paid me is free to use my source code to develop similar products. They are not free to sell or give away my source code. I retain the rights to use my source code as long as I do not use it for a similar competitive product. Given the specialized nature of the product using my embedded software it is unlikely that they will ever have a use for my source code on any other product. Indeed, if they do I am likely to get the contract to make it work on the new product. Likewise, given the specialized nature of the product using my embedded software it is unlikely that I will find a competitor building a similar product. I think the answer is due to their "All in one Driver installer" To install 1 driver you need to use a library that contains every single driver they ever made.
