As for me and my small co., I plan on skipping, or at least waiting until at least most of the inhearent bugs are worked out of that enviroment. Heck I mostly did the same with .NET peroid. I did not do VS 2002 or 2003, I waited until VS 2005 came out before easing my grasp on VS 6. :-D

If you do not use SharePoint Services it is recomended to use the Expression family. See Here... [http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/frontpage/FX100743231033.aspx](<a href=)[^]"

This is actually moot, but I read all of the entries on this thread and saw no other mention of bad Maxtor experiences. Anyway have a great day! :-D :-D

The trouble with that statement is it is a one person experience. I have been using a 250 GB Maxtor USB backup for 11 months now without 1 problem. And the trouble with that statement is the same as the trouble with yours. :) :)

Amen, thank you!!! The same with me, I liked XP Pro allot, but I got involved with Vista during the Beta 1 Public and worked with all of the Betas and Release Candidates where I learned lots about the system. I am presently running Vista Ultimate, (started with Business and then upgraded), and I have only experienced 2 system crashes since starting to use "Business", in February. :)

 That is also why When reading text on a Microsoft system, it is much more crisp than on a Mac. Art and graphics are great, don't get me wrong, but I do not play allot of games, I am dealing mostly business & development applications, and my eyes are grateful. It has most always been true that if you work with video and graphics use a Mac, but for business a PC is much more sutied to the task. :):)

Great thoughts, I don't care what any wazoo has to say about Code Project, the level of knowledge here is the best that I have seen. I am a member of many developer sites, but I do more reading, browsing, and participating here than at any other site. The "Lounge", is mainly for sharing thoughts and sometimes blowing off steam, other forums are for their respective uses so if someone is looking for help on a specific problem there are places here to do that. I have never had a question that I didn't get at least 3-5 very helpful ways of taking care of whatever the problem was. At any rate, your comments and cudos to the people that you have mentioned are 100% accurate and I hope that Code Project stays around for a long time! :)

Look, I don't know what I have done different but I run VS 2005 without upgrading my privlages and I do not receive any UAC messages. Yes, I am running SP1 with the Vista fix. The applications I develop do not bug users with unnecessary user elevation messages. So, am I doing something wrong? You folks sort of have me worried because I am hearing that most of you keep being driven nuts by the UAC and VS 2005.

I bet you have bad memory.

It is a possibility that the onboard video memory may be bad, but it does register it (displays the correct amount :~ ), the memory information on startup. As far as my system mem goes I have 3 GB and have even done memory diagnostics and found that all is well there. Is there a way to actually test the video card's memory? Such as a software tool that runs a video mem diagnostic, I just have not found one? Any further help here is most definitely appreciated, and I will listen to anyone who has knowledge about troubleshooting this problem. Frankly, if I knew for sure I wouldn't be asking for help! :~

The other issue is the way data is stored for roads and addresses. There is no direct correlation between latitude/longitude data and road data except at key-points (roads are stored as vectors of direction and length which tends to increase errors until another key-point). Although many of us complain over the inaccuracies, since the primary user of said data is road navigation, and GPS navigation devices use "lock-on-road" options, most people don't know, and don't care. Welcome to the real world. congratulations on seeing it, most people don't.

I would like to thank you, I just thought I was getting a little more blind. LOL  No actually I understand what you are talking about due to the fact that I was a USCG licensed Oceans Master for 20 Yr. and we fought with the DMA for the same reasons, as we were more heavily relying on Loran (long ago), and then GPS (in my industry we also used the differental correction module). This really pointed out the difference between chart and reality. Anyway, thanks for pointing that out, as you obviously, know a lot more about the reasons for the errors than I do but it sure clarified allot of unanswered questions for me. :-D

  • Display Drivers & Windows Vista?
    D db_cooper1950

I know that sounds rather general, well let's get specific. I have a GeoForce 7100 GS video card. It is a PCIex with 256 MB of onboard memory. It is listed as "Vista Compatible", I have tried every known driver (I can find). even to the extent of trying one of nVidia's newest beta drivers. My system continues to crash, crash, crash  . When I revert back to my onboard video, GeoForce 6100 with 64 MB of onboard memory, my system stabilizes but I would like to be able to utilize the more powerful card. Any help or sugesstions in this matter would be greatly appreciated.:-D

Personally I vote a 4 on this subject, as I think that it is a good idea. And as others have stated, if you want to ommit this info then by all means go ahead, it should be up to each individual. As for myself I am an owner of a custom system building company, where I am also the one wearing all the other hats too. It can and does get crazy sometimes. However, I have to say that I have listend and learned quite a bit of very useful information here. :-D

    D db_cooper1950

This is definitely a headache at times. As another user pointed out this is usually due to the system computing "Time Remaining", but I could probably manually do that in 1/10th the time it takes Vista. At times I have spent 5 minutes waiting for a 10 second operation to finish. I actually like Vista quite a bit but these little "gotcha's", is what fuels the fires of discontent about the OS.

You are totally correct, and I am sure that you have seen the new machines out there with Vista and 512 or 1 GB (at best) from the "Big Guys". it really is absured that they sell machines like that. I am running Vista on a desktop and enjoy the system, but I am also running 3 GB of ram. :-D
