Seems to be pretty standard in this day and age, getting chalked up to "security". Stuff like you are more likely to be let go on a Friday since then you'll then have Saturday and Sunday as a cooling off period. It is less bad work environments and more of one bad apple. Previously one of the PMs I worked on a project with was in the middle of a pretty nasty divorce, life was not going well for him, very depressed, starting to have angry outbursts, he had talked about recently completing a firearms training course, etc. One day he stopped showing up for work and building security got nervous.
