Chris, is that the study from the same institute that said that smoking is healthy? ;) After the course, I and the other course attendants had no confidence left: We knew we couldn't drive. A big motivation to do something about it. -------------------------------------------------- If my messages appear curt, I apologize. Philosophical rant - Some fun on the road?I agree, since the 3th and 4th gerneration ABS systems a human driver can no longer beat the ABS electronics. When driving on the track, the intention is still not to use them by gradual braking instead; the ABS is there when you make a mistake. -------------------------------------------------- If my messages appear curt, I apologize. Philosophical rant - Some fun on the road?for ABS, I agree (great invention) but you can still stop faster without (if you are a very very good driver) . ESP and the like, I am not so sure: ESP will solve a lot of the problems you are not even aware of (if ESP was not there you would start to feel it - hopefully gradually ). The problem is that when the electronics can no longer solve it, there is no hint (except for the stupid flickering ESP warning light) for the driver anymore: The situation has become incorrectable. Instead of helping a bad driver with electronics, should the driver not learn how to control his car for himself? I am totally against cruise control. Driving is dangerous and requires your full attention, always! Check the insurance company statistics: more accidents with cruise controlled cars. I am not against electronics all together: Airconditioning on the other hand is great - it makes the environment more pleasant and raises the attention level. Cars without airconditiong have more chance of getting into an accident on a hot day. -------------------------------------------------- If my messages appear curt, I apologize. Philosophical rant - Some fun on the road? The problem with cruise control is that it is easier and you WILL loose attention. Just because it makes life or a car trip easier does not mean it is a great invention. Lately, a lot of trucks are slamming in the tail of traffic jams with devastating effects. Of course (most of the time), it is the truck driver's fault, but this is now happening more than without cruise control. Without cruise control, the driver’s feet would hurt (like yours) and he or she would take a break and rest a bit. 20 minutes later – after the break – the driver will have more attention, the road is a lot safer. -------------------------------------------------- If my messages appear curt, I apologize. Philosophical rant - Some fun on the road?Hi, Some time ago, I decided to take some advanced driving lessons. Mainly because I felt I could use the practice and also because I bought a more powerful car, hence more responsibility (this could be an advertisement slogan :) ) With all the electronic safety applications getting more and more mainstream, you don't feel like driving a car anymore. You drive 70 mph and have the feeling it is not really fast. The suspension filters all the bumps in the road. The sound isolation is so good you hardly can hear anything. Cars are getting heavier and ‘safer’. Only when you bump into something (or someone) this fact and the enormous amount of potential energy becomes very real. Surprise. I am now hooked on the speed sensation thing (my car) . So in fact, the advanced driving course accomplished the exact opposite of my original intention. An additional side effect (from what I have seen on the driving course and experienced on the race track) is that I am now - more than ever - convinced that 90% of car owners just can't drive. :~ Some snow or just ordinary rain… and the result is clear. :( This has nothing to do with knowing the traffic rules or driving carefully, but with anticipation and car control. Should electronic driving aids be banned? I think so. :-O I refer to the danger of the so-called 'cruise control'. Also, a driver's license should not be 'given' to anyone. Am I too extreme? Probably just seen to many idiots on the road this evening… :rose: -------------------------------------------------- If my messages appear curt, I apologize. How to remove a handle HFONT from memory? You probably still use the font (draw text with it) after you deleted the HFONT handle. Maybe you selected it? The solution is to DeleteObject the HFONT handle only after you unselected it in any window using it, e.g when the window is destroyed. -------------------------------------------------- If my messages appear curt, I apologize. MenOk, this is an oldy but I could not resist... Fresh from her shower, this woman stands in front of the mirror, complaining to her husband that her breasts are too small. Instead of characteristically telling her it's not so, the husband uncharacteristically comes up with a suggestion. "If you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of toilet paper and rub it between your breasts for a few seconds". Willing to try anything, the wife fetches a piece of toilet paper, and stands in front of the mirror, rubbing it between her breasts. "How long will this take?" she asks. They'll grow larger over a period of years," he replies. The wife stops. "Why do you think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my breasts every day will make my breasts grow over the years?" "Worked for your ass, didn't it?" ;):-D;P -------------------------------------------------- If my messages appear curt, I apologize. Fire-fighersRobert Edward Caldecott wrote: Standing up for what you believe in is all well and good, but when it means putting the lives of innocent people at risk then I have a problem with it. Well said, but can you suggest an alternative for the strike. Usually, a strike is (or should be) a last resort. And unfortunately, it seems only a strike that bothers people and thus government seems to generate the 'goodwill' to do something about the demands and worries the strikers have. To fix things before they get out of hand: get a good negotiator in there, give them a substantial wage increase (but nowhere near 40%) and try to figure out ways to make their job easier, listen to their worries and do something about it. That might be a more practical solution. To create a better world, one should always start with oneself. -------------------------------------------------- If my messages appear curt, I apologize. Fire-fighersI Agree (although I am not a fellow Brit), a 40% payrise is absurd. However, I am sure their wages are too low right now, considering the job and all the riscs and dangers... How much salary would you want to do the fire fighting job? Some jobs just cannot be appreciated enough. -------------------------------------------------- If my messages appear curt, I apologize.
