I always knew that the CRLF came from Carriage Return and Line Feed from the days of the electronic typewriters ... but never really thought about it logically until today... In the days of electronic typewriters a Line Feed would be followed by a Carriage Return to move the line down and the return the carriage to the start of the line I have never seen a typewriter do it the other way around... so why is this reversed in computing?? ... even the enter character symbol ↵ implies that the Line Feed should be done first!... I even looked up YouTube videos to double check ... and sure enough the LineFeed is done first :) Any thoughts ;P?? ... Do people agree that logically it should be done the other way around (although I would be against that since I have been conditioned to do it the other way)?? Kris

Codeblocks not working correctly???I have posted a few things recently and have noticed that the code blocks are stuffing up a bit recently .. have not noticed this behaviour previously ... check out this one for eg: My comment[^] ... it has put a phantom <pre> in there ??? and generally stuffed the whole thing up I cannot go and edit it because it is correct when I go to edit it :(... Has anyone else noticed this ?? Thanks, Kris

Random Downvoter -
I'm getting down vote attacksI am getting the same because I pissed off someone who is just being un-rational. I do think that there should be a limit of say 15 mins to how often you can down vote any given individual, because I got 19 down-votes in 7 mins! I think there is a lot Code Project could do to improve its voting systems to prevent these kind of attacks. Kris

My posts down votedI posted this article in the lounge (yes I know I probably should have posted it here, whops) Article violates Terms[^]. Anyway, today, in a period of 7 mins, 19 of various posts of mine were mysteriously down-voted. I assume this was related. Kris

Article violates TermsThanks for pointing this out to me, I don't use the forums bit much (basically use it to comment on articles). I did look for something like this, but only under the drop-down menus @ the top... didn't realise the item on the left menu, I think that it should also be under the "Help" menu. Kris
-
Article violates TermsYes ... it does get to me, but only because the author has not
provid[ed] reasoning, and gives an open chance of discussion, and, also, the opportunity to change their vote based on the authors response (either reasoning or changing the article).
I posted several informative posts on his article, and provided code examples of how the project could have been improved. Kris

Article violates TermsI know what you mean by the game, but I think that this retaliation behaviour goes against what CodeProject stands for, people attacking others for down voting just discourages down voting in the first place! I think people should vote how they want to vote (down or up), as long as the person provides reasoning, and gives an open chance of discussion, and, also, the opportunity to change their vote based on the authors response (either reasoning or changing the article). Unfortunately, not all think this way. Kris

Article violates TermsI voted this article a 2 originally as i did not think the implementation was well done: RS Focus Component[^]. I also provided detailed reasons for this. After further investigation I noticed that the project relied on a closed source dll, which is against the CodeProject Contributors Agreement[^] to post closed-source libraries:
Note: As a consequence of the frequent virus infections across the internet, CodeProject will no longer accept binary submissions that do not contain full source code, unless the submission is from a recognised company or institution. Shareware or time-limited submissions will not be accepted.
Also after downgrading my vote to one and explaining this, Rameez Raja then proceeded to down vote other articles of mine with comments such as "..." Kris

Top Ranked Articles not implemented well??Thats my point ... about 75% of the top ranked articles have < 10 votes, but because all of the votes are 5 * they are top articles.... You said:
OriginalGriff wrote:
Different users votes have different weight: a high rep individual will have a bigger effect than a low rep, partly to prevent people from artificially inflating an article score by creating loads of sock puppet account to vote for it.
... and I am saying that that only applies to articles that DON'T have all 5 * votes... eg all 5 * only vote articles will always be 5 stars ... so they shouldn't be counted in the top ranked UNLESS they have a decent amount of votes ... otherwise anyone could post an article, vote 1x on it from another account ... and it will be in the top 100 because it only has 5* vote(s). Kris
-
Top Ranked Articles not implemented well??I am sorry but what do you mean by "ranking by popularity"? Isn't that what "Top Ranked Articles" is? Kris
-
Top Ranked Articles not implemented well??To my knowledge the weighting only applies for averages ... when articles only have a few votes all of 5, (regardless of the user's rep) it will always be 5 stars. EDIT: also i think that you need the 1-5 ... I would only rate 5 for exceptional articles a 3 or 4 for an average article, 2 for poor article, one for malicious. Kris

Top Ranked Articles not implemented well??I was looking at the top ranked articles today ... and noticed that ALL of the top articles have < 5 votes .. one person voting 5 stars seems to weigh more than 100 votes averaging 4.95 ... I think this makes it a little skewed, a poor article will get in with one good vote over proven articles. I think that this section should be updated to have a "minimum votes" field that starts at 10 by default. Also i think the result set should be limitless, it only returns the "top" 100... and I had to get to number 92 before I came to the proven articles, so really it was the top 9! Here is the last page results to demonstrate: Rank. > Votes > Rating 81. > 1 > 5 82. > 1 > 5 83. > 1 > 5 84. > 1 > 5 85. > 1 > 5 86. > 1 > 5 87. > 1 > 5 88. > 1 > 5 89. > 1 > 5 90. > 1 > 5 91. > 1 > 5 92. > 31 > 4.99 93. > 57 > 4.95 94. > 29 > 4.97 95. > 75 > 4.96 96. > 25 > 4.96 97. > 30 > 4.96 98. > 37 > 4.96 99. > 15 > 4.96 100. > 29 > 4.96 The URL for these is here Kris

Down-voting posts shouldn't be anonymousMy post, at The Culture of VB versus the Culture of C#[^], got downvoted ... I wonder who could possibly downvote this??? I think that just as you are required to with articles, downvoting posts should require the down-voter to leave a comment saying why. I think that if you don't want to rate something well you should have to put your name against it. I have no problem telling people why I vote against something and why; I believe that it also gives people a chance to improve things and get their vote changed. Regards, Kris

Article Submission FrustrationOK ... every time i save the article and come back in it adds another br to the end of each line break in both IE and Opera! I am going to my articles, edit, it opens up, click the HTML button, click save draft, go back to my articles, edit, click the HTML button again ... and then there is now a new br for EVERY LINE BREAK in the WYSIWYG editor (next to the old ones)!!!
-
Article Submission FrustrationOpera (but it does it occasionally in IE too)... and it is where there is already a br ... I imagine it is because it puts a br in the WYSIWYG editor and then this is somehow becoming two ... I personally wish there was a way to DISABLE the WYSIWYG editor and the automatic br's on a per article basis; so you can disable it and enable it for a specific article when the author deems (when editing); and when you come to update the article next time the option is remembered. Kris
-
Article Submission Frustrationwhops ... yes thats what i meant ... but either way they keep duplicating automatically (about 1/3 of the time) when I save my article! Kris
-
Article Submission FrustrationThe article submission is really starting to bug me ... basically i just use the html source editor and not the WYSIWYG and have <br /> ... after saving and going back in one br seems to occasionally (doesn't seem to always happen) become 2... and then 4 ... and so on Does anyone else have this?? Thanks Kris
