    Hey I've got an idea, let's make something completely useful, and then not use it! When you can't explain it in a comment, just use long identifiers ;) : Decimal ClassThatTakesADecimalRoundsItToTheNearestSecondDecimalAndThenReturnsItAsADecimalVeryEffeciantly(Decimal num) { return Math.Round(num, 2); }

  • If code were music....
    K k bl

    I don't know why this popped in my mind, but on my way home from work, while listening to some music and thinking about some code I starting thinking about comparing the two. If a well written object oriented function were a symphony and an efficient hack - pop, what would rap be? I don't know where this stuff comes from.

  • Opinion: Rise of PHP shows how msft dev tools have lost their way
    K k bl

    I started using PHP w/ PDT and I feel like, to some degree, that Microsoft's tools are bloated, but I have become attached to C#/VB.net/T-SQL and the ease at which (after you learn how to use it of coarse) it inter-communicates. I think Microsoft did something right with the CLR of .net and will always be there for business professionals who want a supplied product. There are pros and cons both ways, in reality it comes down to the skills that have been obtained through experience and the ability to adapt to new projects. But if you are trying to learn .net after already knowing PHP or classic asp, get ready to pull your hair out, it's a brain duster! K-BL

  • Linux vs Win03 Server

    Whats better, apples or oranges? I'm pretty sure it's apples, no wait, I think it's oranges. My personal take is that systems are getting so fast and efficient that it honestly comes down to what you like and want to work with. I've got an ubuntu virtual host that runs windows servers, and that works fine for me, but may not for the next guy.

    It's funny thought. Once you start to use those new tools, you start to wonder how you ever did what you did without them.

  • Cleverness

    What about clerverly(:)) simple code? For instance, with the jQuery toolkit for JavaScript there is an array handler called "each" used like this: $(arrayi).each(function(i){ document.write(i) }); I don't normally dig the "clever code", but I love when it is tastefully simple.

  • Notepad Replacement

    I know I'm going to receive flack from this, but Notepad++ is by far THE BEST SIMPLE text editor. There are a few out there that are just as good, but more complex. Notepad++ keeps it simple with a simple notepad design and the ability to open multiple documents at the same time. here are some more features: * Multi View * Auto language detect and color * Formatting automation & customizations (for pretty coding) * East to use tab interface similar to Firefox
