Drinking is supposed to make people look better...can it also make markup languages look more like live code?

Why do some old programming languages never die? -
The Surface damage is mounting at MicrosoftBy itself, the division may not rake in the money, but with the license fees for game developers to get SDKs, devkits, etc, along with first-party games like Halo, they don't really need to worry too much about it.

Why I left the .NET FrameworkI have an instance of both VS2012 and 2013 open and together they're ALMOST taking up as much memory as Firefox. The response and startup times since VS2010 has vastly improved as well. But hey, I'm one of those guys who use an IDE because developing is more than just typing out text in a no-frills editor. After all, the 'E' stands for 'Environment' not 'Editor'

Relive your XP nostalgia with Microsoft's ‘Escape from Windows XP' gamelol, it crashed Firefox for me twice (both times were right after it listed my achievements at the end). I'm wondering if this is a bug or an "easter egg" ;P

Announcing the Visual C++ Compiler November 2013 CTPI'd bite, but VSE doesn't allow you to use 3rd party extensions. VAX and Atomineer are a big deal to me.

Announcing the Visual C++ Compiler November 2013 CTP...instead of just a CTP, with the real meat and potatoes coming in VS-next (2014) I seem to recall STL explaining how last year's CTP couldn't be integrated into VS2012 (past a CTP) due to some drastic changes to the standard library implementation. Hopefully we're not being teased yet again with what's going to come in another full price release of VS.

Clash of the unlikely: C# versus... RealBASIC?I still have the associated source in my history Original C# code: http://pastebin.com/f287a2609[^] RealBASIC code: http://pastebin.com/f22e9ffa2[^] One of the optimizations to the C# code done by a commenter: http://pastebin.com/3765W95A[^] (I guess RealBASIC doesn't have an equivalent to Stopwatch?) I think there were a few other code postings but that last one was the only submission I took a look at before realizing how old this blog entry was...

License Plate NumberSo to fully qualify a GUANO you'd have say, USA-NY-DEADBEEF? Hmmm, what about when we colonize Mars, or some "Super Earth" lightyears away? We'll need UUANO! MW-SOL-T-USA-NY-DEADBEEF. There, future-proofed, I feel better. Well, unless a scientist discovers the existence of a parallel universe or multiverses...

how to resolve error LNK2001I'm pretty sure "_security_cookie" is the name for the compiler object used for stack verification (local stack value set using the cookie upon function entry, then checked on exit). Who ever built those libraries you're trying to use probably compiled with /GS. A quick google came up with this which may provide some answers (just skimmed the article).

VS2005 Professional CompatabilityI'm running pro under my Home Premium on my macbook pro and it has yet gave me any problems (aside from the usual user-based ones of course :)). And I haven't downloaded any updates to VS05. Its all from the original install disks

Star Wars KOTOR IIBut while it couldn't beat the original, it still turned out to be a kickass game. I have a debug build of it infact lying around here somewhere. The only complaint I had of it was the ending. I thought it was lacking compared to the original. But then again, the twists in the original are hard to beat :) If you liked the first one, then you most definitely will like the 2nd. Hardly anything changed about the game play, so no learning curve thankfully :D

Anyone else think Vista is a buggy piece of crap?!All the complaints I've heard come from people installing Vista on PCs. I recommend going Macbook pro ;p. The only problem I've really had so far was a REFERENCE_BY_POINTER BSOD that has maybe happened 4x since I got my Macbook pro back in mid-December (happened during login, so it didn't interrupt normal work flow so-to-speak ;) ) Other than that little thing, I'm loving Vista as much as my old OS, Win2k. XP can choke on it IMO >_> And if you do install Vista on your Macbook. Allocate more than 30gbs (especially if your a programmer with a large tool collection) for Vista on your HDD. Someone tried telling me 20gb was enough...pffft. Not for a laptop.
