New version of SQL Server "Yukon"What is public knowledge is that .NET can be used to created Extended Stored Procedures, not T-SQL replacement stored procedures. MS Research is working on an inline .NET language T-SQL replacement, but no MS BU has taken up the project, yet. Cheers Mike Johannesburg, South Africa

SQL Server Setupfume wrote: ... Is SQL Server ideal for client-server application using a peer-to-peer connection? What's the difference if there's a hub that would connect 2 computers rather than having a peer-to-peer connection? The network makes no difference. SQL just uses the stack that the OS supplies. It does not care if you are connected via Satellite, 10mbit or cross-over. Cheers Mike Johannesburg, South Africa

Al Qaida claims responsibility for blackoutMaybe the US should guard every power transmission pole and installation. If a few lines going down can cause such havoc, imagine what 10 determined operatives could do. Forget the airports, protect the power lines! Cheers Mike Johannesburg, South Africa

App on Dual Monitorspeterchen wrote: How does an app work on two monitors? The whole banana: i.e. Windows is faking the two monitors to be one large desktop. Is there something (not) to do in my app? On your current monitor, the Co-ordinates of top left is 0, 0. The extend the desktop just creates a region of negative x, y co-ordinates. You normal screen gets addressed in the old fashion, and the other one in negative. The video card and driver actually do the work. You don't need to do anything for your app to work. Just check that when you save your window locations, make sure that you support negative values. Cheers Mike Johannesburg, South Africa

The fight agains spamdabs wrote: - a software on the users computers (a screensaver a la SetiAtHome or a process with low priority in the background) would connect to the server and get a list of such spam sites. It would then initiate a denial-of-service attack to these sites. The problem is that hey relay though other servers. If you DOS the relay servers and the whole net will shut down. The ORDB (http://www.ordb.org/) shows how bad it really is. Cheers Mike Johannesburg, South Africa
