...and it bricked my computer, so I've spent my entire Friday night reinstalling Windows 8 instead of shooting zombies in the face. Does that count as a rollback? Or will I try it again tomorrow, like the whore that I am...? :~

About as sensible as your assertion that you can't trust your "entire computing platform to this bit of code never failing". By extension, you could say that about any piece of code on your system. Tons of drivers and wonky software cause Blue Screens and other problems all the time. One extra piece of code on your system isn't going to make it magically fall apart. The actual functionality and purpose of this piece of code is an entirely different debate. The point was, if you can't trust this piece of code to work as intended, why should you trust any other piece of code on your system to work as intended?

Yeah, you'd better go back to pencil and paper before it's too late. you know, just in case something doesn't work...

Well, given the abomination of garbage that is iTunes on Windows, I can't say I'm in a real hurry to experience it "for real".

The best photo app I've ever seen. A perfectly good office suite that interops with Office. Windows running in a window if I ever need it for anything. But, that's not the point. The OS works. Any platform has the apps you need, the platform is the point.

I use PaintShop Pro 8 - it's old, but it works. Similarly, I use Office 2003, and it does exactly what I need it to do. My windows all run in Windows natively, and for me (and most everyone I've spoken to) Windows 7 just works. Any platform does not have the apps I need, and the platform is largely irrelevant once you're using your applications anyway.

I was being a little facetious. Also, check the links in my sig.

I play PC games that simply do not exist on other platforms (for example, http://www.fallenearth.com[^]). I have no interest in console games whatsoever.

My Mac has 8 cores, 20 GB of RAM, 2 TB of HDD space. Hell of a notebook you have there...

Well, obviously it's not as powerful as yours - but I bet it also cost a hell of a lot less. Dual-core, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD and Radeon 4850 video driving a 17" screen at 1920x1200. Works great on everything I've asked it to do. I can't imagine needing 20GB RAM for much of anything - even our IIS/SQL servers at work don't have that much. The point of my post was basically saying I have absolutely no desire to get a Mac. I have no need of anything it may or may not do. Windows does everything I need and I have no complaints. Windows 7 and an MSI laptop works for me. Your mileage of course, may (and very likely will) vary.

What ridiculous leap of logic is that? :wtf: I write software during the day, and in the evening I relax with computer games. My point was, that the games I play are only available for Windows. Buying a computer that is capable of playing games doesn't mean it won't run Visual Studio.

why have you not bought a Mac yet ?'

1). Because if Mac software is anything like iTunes on windows, I'd rather claw my eyes out with a rusty spoon. 2). It has precisely zero applications that I care about. 3). Because my boss is an Apple fanboy too, and I just couldn't let him influence me. (See also, C. Graus) ;P 4). I buy a computer for work. And I work with Microsoft products. 5). I buy a computer to play games on. 'nuff said. 6). I cannot afford a second mortgage for a computer that is lower-equipped than my laptop, for more money. 7). All of the above.

I've ran into the exact same issue, and it's ridiculous. I was trying to restore an old system for a friend and HP didn't have ISO's, CD's or anything they could let me have. Basically told me I had to buy another copy of Windows. I told them to get lost. And based on my laptop experience, I recommend MSI[^] to anyone that asks about laptops now.
