Bank nationalisationBank of America was a healthy bank. It was forced at the end of govi shot gun to merge with Leman Brothers, now it's choking on the acquisition and causing Bank of America to sink. Competency in action. One remembers the soviet state run industries of or'e, oh, how those under 40 forget.

My second job interview:) My point, is a head hunter interview has low standards, it's the client interview that's really important.

WTF [modified]Your post reminded me of the Dragnet 67[^], where Friday(Jack Webb[^]) and Gannon (Harry Morgan[^]) are questioning a ‘barber’ and the ‘barber’ takes offence at the moniker Gannon used. He says in a somewhat limp wristed fashion to Gannon (who is balding), a barber is one who cuts your hair, then to Friday he says (full head of hair) a hair stylist is one who styles your hair. It was a small scene and I can’t find a link to it, but I do recall it. What’s old is new again. :)

My second job interviewLooks like you are interviewing with a job-shop, you are not interviewing with the 'real client'. All they want to know is * Are you warmer than room temperature? * Do you drool? * Do you pick your nose? * Do you speak a reasonable facsimile of English? * Do you know how to dress yourself? Now the interview with the client is a totally different matter.

Good news...click[^] edit (added) I think Rush Limbaugh in above article is trying to tie this to Soroce, very speculative, and somewhat conspiratorial, but an interesting read. It does seem that the Pres. and the congress are talking the economy down. /edit

Good news...I have found if I turn off the radio, don't read the paper, keep the TV off except for netflix movies I have a much pleasanter disposition. On the down side when I go to work (I support a federal agency as a contractor) I hear the feds talk about writing this proposal and that proposal to get a hunk of the Spendulous cash. I almost got in trouble at work for saying they should burn it in a ash canister in the lobby of their the government building to keep things warmer and reduce the carbon footprint... fortunately I only got a wry smile, so I don't think I'm in too much trouble. Damn depressing if you are too wired into this stuff.

A market reply to the mortgage bailoutI tried to find the source of the quote. The latest 'official' print was from Oklahoma paper, but it was also attributed to some French guy writing about the American revolution. I saw some references that attributed it to Ben Franklin. I saw one reference that it was a quote from an Athenian politician a bazillion years ago. I'm not really 100% sure who the original author is... But I like it too. Should be taught in schools as a sirens song against what could (is) happening.

The qualification makes all the differance. However, 'Americans who (do not) live responsibly' also have the vote. * A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy 1951 editorial in The Daily Oklahoman

Funny, you should mention that. The highway that surrounds a local city here has these things that look like light poles with a solar panel near the top, about half way down the pole is a small box about the size of a usb hard drive pointed at an angle towards the road. Poles are about a quarter mile apart. I asked our state senator, "what's up with these polls", he said that they are for a future fare collection system for this city's beltway.

not NICEDo you think and underpaid bureaucrat part of a government union is a suitable replacement? My doc makes lots of money (much more than I do, and good for him), he is trying start up a concierge practice. My insurance company may deny me treatment, but my doc will still tell me all of my options with out reading a treatment script by NICE. I may have to work out a deal, worst case with my insurance company where I will have to pay out of pocket exceptional treatment but at least I will know all of my options. My doc is closer to my problems then the bureaucrat will ever be.

Medicare, it would seem logical that accepting it would mean that one was accepting the right to have it rationed on a cost/benefit basis, and maybe that's all that's needed.
If you are aware that this is the case, many are not. I would like an option to opt out of medicare or have private insurance supplement. Which I think is the case right now.

You are in control, you know your options, can't argue with that. My point is that YOU ARE IN CONTROL not a government official.

How so? Private insurance? How does this work?

drug companies are not allowed to try to sell me things I don't need, and that would in all probability do me harm
It is the US drug companies who are making innovations into new drugs, I am not aware of any socialist health care systems that are innovating like the US is.

I'm not aware of your personnel experience. But docs score in school on the bell curve just like programmers, some are not so good, some are average, some are exceptional. Does socialized medicine fix this?

It is true, but the FDA does not decide who gets treated or not based on government monetary considerations.

It is just not a matter of saying that "not NICE" without considering all the implications which is not a great deal different from what your American FDA and other such bodies do their work. Yet it is perfectly understandable that charities and other support groups would want certain drugs and/or treatments that either have not yet been assessed or have been rejected for one reason or another.
I do not trust your government or mine to make that decision. As your country slides into the abyss, I suspect the 'cost' versus result calculus will get ever more scrutiny by your government, good luck on influencing that outcome as it relates to you and your family.
