Nikon D40, 40x -
Nikon D40, 40xI understand that the D40 is a great camera. Ken Rockwell has a review of the camera that you might find interesting, but take him with a grain of salt http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/2007-05-what-camera.htm[^]

CPU BurnClogged heat sink will cause the CPU to overheat too. I had a computer brought in that was so full of dust, the dust acted as an insulator and the CPU shutdown within 30 seconds of start up from overheating.....the user brought it in thinking they had a virus. Jim

Anyone know anything about cars ?One other simple thing to check is the ground wire from the battery to the frame. Usually it is just a 10 guage wire going from the negative post to the frame of the car. I know it sounds weird but poor or intermittent connectivity on that wire can cause odd things to happen. Good Luck Jim

Vista Pronunciationneither, I have been pronouncing it as Vis-Ta as in a distant view. Which fits in with the marketing I have seen. Jim

T.V. Show "Dirtiest Jobs"...I don't know if it is the dirtiest job I have ever done, but it is one that sticks out in my mind whenever the subject comes up. As a teenager I helped get a bell down out of a church steeple. Big Old Bell, Hot Belfry in the summer, and working ankle deep in bat guano X| . It was a week before I got all the junk out.

Something just did. :rose: Very Nice. Good job, and good timing. I thought you did a nice job on the site, and your wife did a great job on the jewelry. Just in time for my anniversary. Just a couple of comments on the user experience. User account 1. Don't make me guess the telephone number format, either be explicit and show me the format you want, or let me type it in anyway I want and correct it on the back end. 2. Don't force me to change my password just to correct something else. I don't want to type in my password twice just to correct a phone number. Especially since I just created the account a few minutes ago. Checkout Checkout went very smoothly, and this is a personal preference thing. I prefer sites that take me to an invoice copy that I can print when the transaction has processed. The Thank-You page is nice, and I see that I can click a link to get my invoice copy, but I would prefer that the order details were a part of the Thank-You page rather than having to notice the link and go to yet another page. On the whole it is a very nicely done site with very nice product. Good Job to you, and tell your wife Good Job too. Jim

Ripping your own CD to iPod not legalAFIK--This is an RIAA position, not a legally accepted definition of fair use. Though that may change. The article notes that this is a change even in the RIAAs definition of fair use, and I hope that that inconsistancy bites them in the end. jim

Proxy Login Dialogbox AnnoyanceI have run into two issues that can cause similar behavior. One is a cashed password on the local user profile that passes your old password to the proxy server when you try to establish the connection. The other is not having your Domain DNS server as your primary DNS server, that can cause issues with the secuity credentials of your computer (I don't remember the specific error off the top of my head, but there is a security error associated with this that you can find in event viewer). This issue also can disrupt printing to network printers, you suddenly are unable to connect, even though you just used the printer and can ping it. Not sure if these are your issues, but might be worth taking two minutes and checking out. Hope it helps Jim

Windows Server RestartsI run several Win2k servers. I can only remember one instance in the last two years that I had to reboot a server that was not a part of planned maintenance/patching. I almost never have to restart a server for issues other than dropping patches, new software, etc. The one time I did have to restart was not due to the OS being unstable but was because the exchange information store had issues. Clean & Tidy or Disaster & Clutter...C--I get so involved in what I am doing that the desktop becomes a landing place for all the junk I get handed that I am going to have to deal with sooner or later, but don’t want to interrupt what I am working on to deal with it right now. I hardly ever make to the carefully groomed stage, but start finding it hard to concentrate when it reaches the disaster stage. Jim

VirusYep, we are getting quite a bit of action from Mytob. I’ve been spending a lot of time reviewing logs to track down sources, and is not fun. I have virus infected traffic coming from several sources. Fortunately it is being caught by my virus system before it hits the users mail box, but it is still a pain. Jim

Putting Dad DownRoger I am both sorry and glad for you. Sorry in this difficult time, and sorry for the pain that you are going through, but glad that you have so much joy to look back on with your dad. Do as much to celebrate his life as to mourn his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.:rose: Jim

sad dayThat is a very tough day, and very sad. There are no words we can give you that can ease the sorrow, but you have my sympathy, and I'll remember you and your friend in my prayers.:rose: Jim

Anyone know of a good book clubI don't know about "good", but I have been using www.computerbooksdirect.com[^] for a few years now. They had a similar introductory special. You can choose three books out of a small selection of books for $1.99 ea. plus shipping and handling. Just like anyother club, you have to watch to make sure you cancel any autoships you do not want, or it is a pain to return the books. But other than that they have been reasonable to deal with, and the pricing has generally been fair. Might at least be worth a look. Jim
