So let me get this straight...I don't get how you want to 'keep going 24/7' and have this running on a single server and not in a cluster (in VM's on a Nano Server or something...)

Access point recommendationsAgree, Unify stuff is almost enterprise features for consumer price. Have three AC PRO's covering my whole house, with separate guest network. Excellent! The review from Ars that convinced me: Review: Ubiquiti UniFi made me realize how terrible consumer Wi-Fi gear is | Ars Technica

How to send SMS through SMSC using SMPPI need to send SMS-messages from my ASP.NET apps. We have access to a SMSC-server, so I would like to use SMPP-protocol. Does anyone know of any sample-code, or a third-party tool (free or paid) that I can use, either as API or web-service? I have used IP-Works SMPP-compnent from /n-software, but it's too low-level for me. In particular, I'm having trouble sending messages that are a combination of multi-message and Unicode (I need to support Arabic messages). Any suggestions/link are appreciated, Thanks, Paul

Technolgy 2008How long has it been since fax-machines have been around? Anyway, a story from my friend. His wife works in HR at the headquarters of an international bank. She recently received a call from a long-term employee from a branch in a small village. She told it to fill in the required form and fax it to the given number. After about half an hour, she got another call: "It's not working! I try to send it, but every time I send the page it's rejected and sent back to me..." Sure enough, walking over to her fax, she found 20-plus copies of the form he had sent...

Virtual PCNO! MS does not support Linux on virtual PC (though you might be able to do it yourself), they do support it on Virtual Server, but only certain distros. VMware is better in this regard. Anyway, in both cases look at the help-files, and vendors web-sites, there's plenty of tutorials...

February 30, 2008 [modified]Hey, what's the issue? According to my watch today is the 30th???? :)

hey photo geeksthough the 18-200 seems faster, I doubt it is. The 3.5 is probably just at 18mm, when you zoom up to 70mm you're probably also at 4.5 (or worse) just like the other one. I would go for the 70-300, it's cheaper, it's got more length, and as other said, sometimes it's convenient to carry only one smaller lens.

Any members of the (ACM) Association for Computing Machinery?Hey, I didn't imply that ACM is not good, for certain people. If research, academics, 'the bleeding edge of science' is what you're looking for, be my guest. But the poster ask for our opinion, and for me personally it's too academic. And no, .NET is not my meaning of life, but neither is IT in general, nor 'bleeding edge science'...

IIS Log readerI 'third' that. It's the best, saves required info in SQL Server, then use supplied SQL Reports and customize!

32-bit or 64-bit Windows?Even though a 32-bit app can only address the 3Gb, when it swaps Windows will actually try to use all available memory (more then 4Gb) first as 'virtual' swap in stead of disk, thus improving performance of even 32-bit apps. I've seen a review of Photoshop (32-bit) running much faster on Win64...

ASP.NET performance problemI have a Windows2000 based server, running many ASP.NET application. Occasionaly performance of the servers starts to degenerate enormously, and users start calling/complaining. When I check I see the process 'aspnet.exe' taking up a huge amount of CPU. Question now is, how do I find out which application is causing this problem? Any suggestions?

CP layoutI guess it's just me, but i was looking at the bottom of the page, and wondering why ".NET charting" had notification about last update/copyright (by CodeProject) etc. till I realized those belong to CP itself, not the advertisment above it (which just happens to have the exact same size/aligmnet...)

TomTom GPS?I completely agree. Tom2 is for in-car, so is Garmin Nuvo. Look for something more simple like Garmin eTrex (in which you can load maps) or Gecko etc (no mpas, just location/trails/waypoints). I've got three Garmin units for different uses and am very happy with them (some Garmins have games built-in, my kids love it). Alternative is a PDA/phone with GPS receiver (either built-in or seperate ($50) bluetooth thingy). Software is available commercialy and freeware with all level of sophistication, e.g. OziExplorer or GPSmap (both WM5/6). Final recommedation: go GEOCACHING. Is extremely fun for a kid to find a hidden treasure using the GPS (^])

Back painI guess most peoples' advise is valuable in it's own way, but there could be so many causes for your back pain. So I'ld agree, diagnosis is the first requirement (X-ray/MRI etc.), then follow with treatment. By the way, I used to have occasional bouts of back pain, but since I've bought my waterbed about 6 years ago, not a single time anymore!!! So I would recommend you give that a try no matter what!

ReportViewer or Crystal ReportsI been using CR for years, because it came with VS, but, like most posters, not really crazy about it. I believe CR in VS may be on it's way out, since MS now has their own solution, SSRS. Is SSRS better? Depends, it's free (with MSSQL), includes a great free server (for report scheduling etc.) which is an expensive option with CR. Also, one of it's current weaknesses (same in CR) is charting, but that should be solved in MSSQL/SSRS2008, since MS bought rights to use Dundas-charts, and will include it in SSRS! I you have experience in CR, and just need to do some short-term stuff, continue using it. However, for future, free reporting go with SSRS. (I have no personal experience with the 3rd party controls, but hoping I won't need to when SSRS2008 with Dundas becomes available...)
