Same thing happened to me. Mine is from 2001. But I found a new defrost cycle timer online for about $10. It's been working fine ever since (2011 I think).

How incredible of a programmer do you have to be...That brings back memories... it's not a computer at all. It's a mainframe terminal. It's a Hazeltine Model 1510 (maybe a 1520 - hard to tell). My Dad helped design the damn thing about 35 years ago.
