  • Another low quality cat joke
    S SD SteveG

That was good... and I'm not trying to top it.. but it reminded me of another cat joke: A couple was dressed and ready to go out for the evening. They turned on a night light, turned on the answering machine, covered their pet parakeet and put the cat in the backyard. They phoned the local cab company and requested a taxi. The taxi arrived and the couple opened the front door to leave their house. The cat they had put out into the yard scooted back into the house. They didn't want the cat shut in the house because she always tried to eat the bird. The wife got into the taxi while the husband went back inside to get the cat. The cat ran upstairs, the man in hot pursuit. Waiting in the cab, the wife didn't want the driver to know the house would be empty for the night. She explained to the taxi driver that her husband would be out soon. "He's just going upstairs to say good bye to my mother." A few minutes later, the husband got into the cab. "Sorry I took so long, he said as they drove away.. "Stupid bitch was hiding under the bed. I had to poke her with a coat hanger to get her to come out! She tried to take off so I grabbed her by the neck. Then I had to wrap her in a blanket to keep her from scratching me. But it worked. I hauled her fat ass downstairs and threw her out into the back yard!" The cabdriver hit a parked car...

  • Wow, writing commerical software is hard
    S SD SteveG

My first commercial app took 3 years of my life, literally. I was the only coder on the project, many times I would wonder, what was I thinking, when I thought that I could do this alone. I did have a non-coder partner (his software idea) who did all of the paper-work for the company. Once the main coding was done, we spent months on the help file and final debugging, distribution web site, licensing strategy, pricing, advertising, etc. I was ready to throw in the towel several times. My wife hated the whole project since it took so much of my time. She used to always ask is it done ?? I would always say something like, "It's getting closer". She now laughs about it, but there was a time when she loathed the project. It was all worth it in the end.. thank God, I have had residual income for the last 14 years from this project with minimum updating and bug-fixing. So it's worth it, stick to it. Yes those final details are a bitch and take time, but don't give up now.

    S SD SteveG

OMG - I agree with you... This site is a huge time waster even though I enjoy it. Honestly I don't know how some of these people do it, they must devote several hours each day. I know I will never be at that level, I just pick an occasional topic to reply on if it interests me. The problem is… I spend a lot of time reading other topics to see if its interesting. Whenever I get the daily developer newsletter, I am very hesitant to open it, knowing that I might spend 2 hours on something that was not the remotest thought in my mind.

  • Yahoo partners with Google
    S SD SteveG

This whole deal was probably initiated by Google, in order to fend off future MS takeover bids. It's a win/win for both but especially for Google, since it won't have to worry about MS growing in search percentage. I think deep down Google fears MS and is trying to ensure that they are not steamrolled by MS eventually. And MS could do it by buying bits and pieces of other search engines and then using only the best of best functions coupled with some of the smartest web people in the world under their employ. Plus Google is not all that, it still returns tons of useless crap… Once someone masters the filtering of pertinent links, it will be a whole new game. Google also knows if their technology ever passed to the wrong hands it could end their supremacy. I'm sure they guard their internals like gold and probably only a select few know all the details on how it all works. I've learned no matter how much money a person has, they enjoy getting richer, if that means selling Google technology secrets to other companies, it could be very lucrative for someone. And a company like MS could easily afford the hardware costs associated with tackling a replication of Google scope once they had basis of the software side.

I left my GPS window mount in my Budget Rental car in Philly and when I got home I phoned them (direct to that facility) a couple days after check-in, and they said they had it, and asked me if wanted it shipped overnight or ground. I told them ground and the thing arrived about 5 days later at my house. They handled my problem very well. I guess I was lucky for once.

  • So Impressed with new Apple iPhone (iPhone 3G)
    S SD SteveG

Oh didn't you know… if you put the letter i in front of the object name it becomes new fascinating technology. And when Apple creates an advertisement it sets new standards in the industry that no one could possibly duplicate. These mac people are easily fooled into believing that these products are superior to similar products, they learn in time that they were duped. There is nothing more funny than watching my friends face after his mac crashes, and then reminding him… how on earth did that happen… macs never crash and didn't you pay extra. And those iphones they are so uncomfortable to use.. non Feng Shui Hey lets make people hold this cold flat rectangular piece of glass up to their face so that each time they use it (in its primary role as a phone), they will be forced to wipe the skin oil (and or makeup) off, before continuing. Then the durability issue, if you drop it.. it's pretty much over from what I've seen. If the screen doesn't physically break, something internal becomes broke and the damn thing doesn't work properly. There is one constant for Apple lovers … Someday the rest of the world will see the vast virtues in Apple equipment and we will all switch over. And the evil Microsoft will fall. :sigh: God they are pathetic.

Mustafa, Yes.. Now we are getting to the root of issue: What most people fail to realize, peace, joy and well-being can only be found inside us. They exist within us now. We tend to look to the outside world to satisfy our needs and longings. Our outer life reflects back to us the way we think, feel and behave. The outer world is all effects. We must look at the source inside for all of life’s treasures. "Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude." -- Denis Waitley "You wander from room to room Hunting for the diamond necklace That is already around your neck!" -- Jalal-Uddin Rumi

Well I gotta hand it to ya... Your English is superior to my Bangla (never heard of it). I find it very difficult to learn new languages; I don't like devoting the time that is required. Why have you chosen English, for a second? Is it required for your job? I was just giving you a hard time about your English, Don't take it personally, English is one of hardest languages to learn. Hell I'm still learning it.

Your right the only thing the media shows is negative, if they started showing positive media on the lives of true ordinary Arabs then American people could see how similar their wants and desires are. Then acceptance and maybe even some love could occur, they would see that they have nothing to fear of these people. We have tons of crazy groups, religions, and organizations in America. It doesn't mean that is what I am or what my country stands for. Yet the media gets aways with painting these ugly images on Arabs on a continuous basis. We can't blame the media 100%, we need to put some of the blame on people who sit in their living rooms, and watch this crap and believe it unquestionably. I'm not bashing Americans. I'm bashing dense people that believe with out a doubt everything they see and hear on radio or TV. I once heard a cop say, "I don't believe anything I hear, and only half of what I see." I thought it was skepticism at its max. But after nearly 50 years of living on this planet, its one of the truest statements I've ever heard and grows in truth as each year goes by.

In other words it's your chance to waste their time as they insisted.

I agree again.. I know some programmers that refuse to learn new methods/paradigms. Within 2 years these types are so far out of touch they either quit or just constantly bitch. I agree it sucks, for example, to learn a whole new data access model, because MS has decided its old tried and true model is no longer the best. But sooner or later you have to. I have to laugh when I hear programmers argue about new models, with statements like: That's stupid, I don't like it, I'm not using it because I've learned or mastered the old way. Well guess what… get used to it, it will happen again and again.
