but NAI or Symantec wouldn't be a better choice? McAfee and MS have been doing deals since 1998, when McAfee VirusScan was included in the 98 Plus!!! pack. MS actually approached Symantec first (and I don't want to discuss the details, since they might be trade secret or something), but Symantec didn't like the terms MS put forth, so MS then asked McAfee, who accepted. Since then, the two have done other deals, e.g. McAfee software scans attachments on Hotmail.
