He said he wanted to do 3D/DX. If it were me, I'd look into using three 8600GS nVidia cards since they're fairly capable, reasonably inexpensive, and readily available. The system was custom built, and the OEM Windows purchased for it (So its not a Dell/HP style OEM). The new motherboard is a different chipset (its a Socket A system, so finding the same MB would be difficult now anyway, and I have a suitable replacement here). The issue is, can an OEM licence be transfered like that? I thought the main limitation of the OEM licence was that it cannot be transfered to a 'new' computer, so does replaceing the motherboard make the computer appear as 'new'. Thanks... Stormblade

Just to make a test: comment these preprocessor definition so you are 100 percent sure they won't interfere and recompile. If this doesn't work, then you probably forgot to put some of the include inside preprocessor definitions. If this works, then you probably declared LINUX somewhere and forgot to remove it. Learn JAVA and install the JRE on the Linux environment - this way your programs work an any Java enabled platform.

DirectShow has been moved into the Platform SDK but all the project files have been stripped out. I think the best one to get is the DirectX SDK February 2005 Extras.

My laptop is by AJP who are basically rebranded mitac. I think the laptop is ok feature wise, and is fairly powerful. However, the laptop is now about three-and-a-bit years old. The battery has been replaced, and the CD/DVD works only intermittently. The contrast on the LCD isn't great either, and it does rely rather heavily on noisy fans for cooling. However it's not a bad laptop, but probably not the best - but few PCs are after 3 years (except my desktop which still rocks!) Joel Holdsworth
