Erik, I live in the UK and as a result of being so far from the US, I have exactly the same problem. Also, as a result of not being a part of Hollywood's great dream (only 60 million potential viewers? Why do we care?), I sometimes like to buy DVDs from the US because I can get them six months earlier than over here and stand a chance of seeing it before I know the plot. I've been known to ship a £400 order of DVDs and pay £50 shipping, £50 tax, and £50 to the courier for taking the tax (which is probably in turn taxed). I don't mind paying tax for things bought in this country. I do mind paying tax for things bought outside but okay, I understand the point. I really object to paying someone for taking that money when I could simply send a cheque to the customs office. Paul

i agree. i never thought much of it (aside from being yet another good pixies tune). but hearing it at the end of that movie totally made it shine. it was a perfect choice. -c "Kate said / The flowers of intolerance and hatred / Are blooimg kind of early this year / Someone's been watering them. -- Robyn Hitchcock, Devil's Radio

They did occasionally bathe their pets, however, else they never would have invented the stuff.:) In fact, I read somewhere that they still occasionally bathe pets... an old tradition it seems.

Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: Was it common though to pay equal salaries to blacks and whites in that time? I would not assume it was a common practice. He lived in what is now Salem VA. which in 1812 (When he purchased the property) this was frontier land. So although he and some of his neighbors (based on # of printing presses if I had to state a percentage it would be about 30% of the local population.) followed this belief, when you add in the established land owner on the East coast the percentage goes way down. All of his children moved west when they came of age to Indiana, Illinois and Kansas. So the population that felt strongly for equality goes down drastically from about 1835 to late 1850's. This making those that do not become much more dominate. Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: I was taught that the majority (if not all?) of the southern states were pro-slavery. This really gets into arguments on what the basis of the Civil War was over. Yes it was about slavery but also about states rights vs federal rights. It is safe to say that the majority of each southern state felt it was up to them to decide if slavery was allowed or not and no one was going to tell them what to do. Sound familiar? (This is my opinion only.) What is interesting is if you go to a town that truly is "Southern" you will not find the war even called the Civil War but the War of the Rebellion. My wife and I took a trip a month ago and stopped in an antique store. The clerk had fresh pastries and coffee free for his guests (Unless your a Yankee!) If you insist in finding evil in me you will find it, whether it is there or not.

Actually, I would like an Audi. This is because they do this really cool nearly black pearlescent magenta finish. What would be even better would be matching lipsptick and nail polish  :rose: Elaine (coordinated fluffy tigress) PS I hope the 307 is better than the 306. I had one as a hire car a couple of time and when you have a long drive they wander about. my Escort just goes in the direction its pointed, nice and easy. Would you like to meet my teddy bear ?

David Wulff wrote: I don't think our health service will allow people my age to change sex, but it was a nice idea. Far from it. I believe the NHS will allow surgery from age 18, but in practice (bureaucracy and funding being something we're good at here) 20-21 is more realistic. The youngest I've heard of was a girl who transitioned at age 15 and had surgery at 17, but I don't think that was in the UK. Would you like me to put you in touch with a support group or two Dave? ;) Anna :rose: "Be yourself - not what others think you should be" - Marcia Graesch
