You mean... like... getting a different box to sleep in? By the way... I hate those new flat screen TV's... the boxes don't make for proper sleeping quarters... Despite everything, the person most likely to be fooling you next is yourself.

Ironically, as developers, we want our work to be play. The problem is all the bean counters and project managers. My current work IS play :) Just like it was in the beginning....gotta love it.

This is a term I recognize from my undergraduate days, and it doesn't come from computers. It's a term from behavioristic psychology. It's used to describe the process of converting a general description of a behavior which may include reference to an internal state of an organism (e.g. an emotion) to a specific description of actions, or operations, which the organism perfoms that give evidence of its internal state ("The rat is scared of getting shocked" becomes "the rat resisted being pushed off the platform onto the electrically wired grid to the point of hanging by its claws to the plunger which was forcing it off the platform"). When you write code, you are operationalizing a technical specification. So, it's accurate, but we didn't need to import new terms from psychobabble, we have enough babble of our own

excellent matrix - should have taken the blue pill! this reminds me of an incident at a large unnamed insurance company some years ago - the small healthcare company was bought out by a huge healthcare company [and by healthcare i mean "insurance"] and the chariman and ceo scheduled a live town-hall video conference for all employees. attandance was mandatory all questions submitted in writing in advance as a contractor, obviously i didn't give a rip about whatever hogwash was going to be slopped about, but i had to attend like a good little lemming much to my surprise, a co-worker gave us all Bingo cards covered in random market-speak words [similar to your buzzword matrix, but with meaningless marketing buzzwords instead of technodrivel] we paid close attention to what the chairman said, and we all had our Bingo cards filled within the first three minutes of the opening remarks! The chairman droned on in that manner for fifteen or twenty minutes (i think i fell asleep for part of it so i'm not sure) and in the end said "well now i only have time for 2 questions" which of course were carefully-selected softballs the hardest part of that meeting was (a) not laughing and (b) not shouting "Bingo!" Good definition. A typical futureproofing tool is a crystal ball perhaps. "The clue train passed his station without stopping." - John Simmons / outlaw programmer "Real programmers just throw a bunch of 1s and 0s at the computer to see what sticks" - Pete O'Hanlon

NetCentric and NetReady refer to applications that make their business functions available to others...If I had an application that promoted people and another application that cut paychecks, I may want to join the services together via WebServices, etc. Funny thing is that most multi-million dollar contracts are still written in TCL on Unix and have not heard of such progress..:~

At least you only get 100 parts to play with I have to complete forms that ask "... what is the probability of reaching goal (blah-blah) by date (some stupid date in the near future)" so that would be a number plucked from the infinity between 0 and 1 then?
