That was the Republic of Ireland. Although there was economic growth in Northern Ireland, it was not on the scale of the Republic. In 2005, the average GDP of the Republic (per person) was €35,725 in the South and East, and €23,637 in the North, Midlands, and West. The corresponding GDP of Northern Ireland was €19,603 per person - the third lowest in the UK. (North East England being the 2nd lowest, and Wales the lowest.)
