What's that got to do with it - you said Spain is in Europe - which it is - and I came back with well America is in the Americas.... I fail to see the problem hehe "Now I guess I'll sit back and watch people misinterpret what I just said......" Christian Graus At The Soapbox

If we are, then it's because we have the freedom to be that way. Europe does not have that freedom. Where we see freedom as the ability to control our collective destiny, you see freedom as the general restriction to do that. That is the first indication of a society in decline.

Ha ha. Yeah so free. You cant drink alcohol in parks and on beaches. You cant smoke dope legally. You cant buy drink in a mac donalds. Your women cant go topless on any beach they want. You have 11 holidays a year, as opposed to 22 here, plus a couple of weeks if your wife gives birth. We have free health care, and it is good. We can drive at 85 mph in France, unlimited in a lot of germany. Free? You dont know the meaning of free. Nunc est bibendum

Spanish men also don't know how to please a woman. The average woman in the US has 2.09 children and in Spain they only have 1.28. Perhaps that chauvinism is masking something deeper.

Actually, anyone who shows up at an emergency room gets free treatment, including illegal aliens. Most people are covered with private insurance paid by employers, the rest are [also] riding on someone elses dime. The other stuff is irrelevent bullshit. BW

It does not make you free, but it does give a population recourse against a tyrannical government. Totalitarian governments always disarm the population, so they dont end up like the redocats did 200 years ago.

Actually "evangelicals" as you see them represent a very small minority of Christian in this country. A Southern Baptist is not an "evangelical" as you see them. I've also known many protestants in my life (my grabdfather is a protestant preacher) and with the exception of one in college who said the pope has a stupid hat, I've never experienced anything but kindness from them. Being an American and pro-freedom, I whole-heartedly support religious people regardless of their religion (as long as they don't blow people up). That's quite different from Europe where such practice is generally frowned upon.

I've seen and heard their leader speak. Scary man.

The practice of believing or supporting believing people? Swedes in general are agnostics, leaning towards "there's got to be something bigger than me". At least, that's the impression I get when talking to people. Of course, there are "hardcore" religious people too, but you only get to hear about them whenever they've killed or conspired to kill someone. In my youth, I was involved (believe it or not) in a church. 2 years of listening to "non-believers has less worth"-rhetoric, I decided that enough is enough. The best thing about not adhering to some old doctrine, is that you are free to change your mind, without the fear of divine repercussion. And you know what? Eventhough I'm godless, I'm still not interested in bestiality, or any other morally suspicious activities.

I'm highly educated by a truly free society where we have the ability to shape ourselves. I am therefore able to see a spade and call it thus.

A society is incapable of caring. It is merely a conceptual entity. By forcing people to care for other through automatic deduction, you actually separate people from their good deeds and they receive no spiritual reward. The US, on the other hand, leads the world in charitable donations because we are comprised of truly caring individuals...Not a series of tax deductions whose benefits are reduced by bureaucracy.

You're scared of the peaceful practice of religion? Given Europe's rich history of oppressing and even killing anybody who's religion differs with their own, and given that the religion du jour in Europe is atheism, I find the fact that you find such people scary in itself...scary.

America's* Literacy rate (link[^]): 99% Spain's literacy rate (link[^]): 97.9% so Spain is about twice as illiterate as the United States. Not only that, but they elected communists in order to appease Al Qaeda. What a bunch of wussies. *Note that this figure has been adjusted to only include the United States. Venezuela was not counted. -- modified at 9:10 Thursday 22nd June, 2006

It's 6 years (minimum) for replica and real firearms (including semi-realistic air soft weapons). Can also get screwed by some air pistols as they are easily modified. Basically, it will be illegal to shave in public within a decade, while gangs of 16 year olds have ready access to illegal firearms. The poster boy for the recent knife amnesty was a batleth Klingon thingy, because everybody knows trekkies have a tendency for massive violence. Ryan

Partly because the media are screaming for action after a number of recent murders (mainly of teenagers) by knife-wielding gang members (usually other teenagers). In reality, the statistics for knife crime haven't changed much in 10 years, but the current UK government is a master of the "knee-jerk" reaction and, facing plummeting opinion poll figures, are desperately trying to show they are still "in touch". It will probably come to nothing, like most of their policies.

Actually a quick googling shows that their illegal immigrant figures are roughyl identical with the number of illegal immigrans we have from Mexico and South America.
