A shotgun by itself won't allow you to "prevent terrorism", but it will allow you to mitigate its effects if it happens to visit you personally (I'm thinking the Mumbai event from a few years ago).

Yes, but they didn't have to do that so damn fast - and without ANY documented proof that it WAS the right body.

If you think pictures weren't taken of the boidy, and video isn't available from the raid itself, you are sadly mistaken. It's just a matter of time before they surface for public consumption. Besides that, nobody in the terrorist world is claiming that the US DIDN'T kill him, so that goes a long way toward a certain level of legitmacy in the claim.

Who am I to be allowed to shoot on people whatever they intentions are ? It is not because a bunch of bastards do it that I am to be as bad as they are: call me naive and idealist, I prefer the solution where noone has any kind of weapons, instead of everybody being armed. But I also know we disagree about that :)

Just to prove that we are an independent nation and will not use the names given to cities by Britishers. Only thing I do not understand is that it took over 50 years to do so. Probably authorities felt Britishers may comeback and then they will have to re-rename the places.

The VAST majority of terrorists are motivated by two things - politics and religion. Of the religious ones, yes, there are probably terror groups for some religions other than islam, but of those religious terrorists, the vast and overwhelming majority are islamic (and when was the last time you heard of a terror cell associated with the Catholics, Methodists, or Baptists). Islamic terrorists don't like anybody that doesn't adhere to the strictest definition of Islam, including other islamic believers. If you want to stretch the motivational factors involved, islamic terrorists are also politically-motivated. For me personally, it is simply "terrorism" regardless of belief system or motivation. In some ways (and depending on who you ask), most government could even be considered terrorist organizations.

I really don't understand why people are so worked up over Bin Laden getting killed. Yes, I'm glad they nailed him, but in the end, nothing changes - for anyone. The terrorists are still out there and even more determined than ever to wreak havoc, and we are still out here making targets of ourselves. While people are out there celebrating, the terrorists are still doing their jobs. The price of libery is paid through eternal vigilance and the ability to act. My advice remains the same - arm yourselves. EDIT =========== I am also of the opinion that it's time for us to leave Afghanistan and Iraq. We did what we said we were there to do, and it's time to widthdraw.

Facinating. I know enough people, you would surely have some colorful name for their types, who are plain too dumb or to clumsy to be entrusted with any weapons. And arming them probably poses more of a threat than any terrorists.

Most people like that also would find carrying a firearm every day too much of a hassle even if they went out and bought one in the first place. Sheepdogs are largely a self selecting group.

You might be a little too left-brained to understand.

I agree, and ditto the South Pacific, the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe.

Say you spot a terrorist at about 150 yards, what weapon do you run and get to put a bullet in his head? Or do you empty your 1911 clip aiming for the chest?

The key is that I don't have to "run and get" a weapon. Head shots are for show-offs. If you want to do real damage real fast, center-mass is the only way.

So you're using the 1911 for a central cavity shot? Headshots are good for zombies and/or countering body armor, though. Especially if you only have a pistol on you.

Assuming you really see some terrorists coming, would you really feel comfortable about most people you know getting ready to play minutemen? Most people I know I would hand nothing more lethal than a broom.

Hmm... Like John, most of my friends and neighbors aren't like that. I think they would give a good account of themselves. Given that my next door neighbor is a combat veteran, our chances are better than a lot of folks.
