You mean as a weapon in war, of course. Lots of countries have developed them as a hobby. :) You get in the club and suddenly what you say matters.

We have certainly proved that. Both Iraq and Libya gave up on nuclear weapon development, and got invaded. The message that many got from this is that you need to have nuclear weapons to keep the US from invading you.

What a weird and narrow view on IP. Are you saying that my LOB code should be given away but the game I'm writing should be paid for?

Who is threatening to attack Iran right now. Who feels most threatened by the arab countries, and the arabs within their own country. Who invaded, so unsuccessfully Lebanon. If Isreal feels like it is up against a wall, and it has always felt threatened, maybe they would use them.

Nonsense. Most authors wouldn't write books if they weren't going to get paid.

Primary and secondary education are free, that doesn't mean the teachers don't get paid.

I have planned to take Visual Studio 2010 Certification exams this year and my main sources are these three books: - MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-511): Microsoft .NET Framework 4—Windows Applications Development - MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-515): Microsoft .NET Framework 4—Web Applications Development - MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-516): Microsoft .NET Framework 4—Accessing Data with ADO.NET The problem is that I have downloaded these books illegally for free and worse than that I don’t feel guilty at all. How about you? Have you ever downloaded programming books illegally? Did you feel guilty after that?

Exactly. It wouldn't be very fair to people who don't like reading to charge them for it. Eduction (at least in the US) is a bit different... I believe you actually have to go to school up to a certain point (though parents can opt out if they choose to home school their child).

Except that in most places that education is compulsory, so you don't really have the option not to use it.

Since when does the govt care about fairness? Oh wait, it doesn't. Anyway, my point is not that this should happen, just that it could. The government could make books free and pay authors with tax money. I don't expect that to happen.

When reviewing resumes, I often think MS Certification is bordeline entertainment. So even by your logic I don't understand, this case is still wrong.
