I've had the latest from our resident Cat Lick, Mrs Wife. This is a very interesting state as the man is selected by God [allegedly] it is not his choice to accept or decline the post. In the same vein only God can decide if he should stop doing the job - normally achieved through removal of privileges; breathing to start with. Now if he didn't want the job, then he's saying that God made the wrong choice, which makes God wrong and so He is fallible which totally refutes the Cat Lick teaching. On the other hand, if God chose the right man but he's decided to spend more time with his choristers, that still looks pretty shitty for Him. I will be very interested to hear what has to be said next Sunday at Mass. :laugh: :laugh:

The intention of this is so you can see where I am coming from. Consider these articles. Peter's Primacy[^] Origins of Peter as Pope[^] Peter and the papacy[^] I know this is a bunch of reading, but hopefully you can print these articles and sit down with a cup of tea/coffee/beverage and read through it. Sort of. I get your point, but oddly enough, most people I have asked say the think their religion is good, but most people know it probably is not the true church. That could be a fun exercise for you, ask people if they believe Christ is at the head of their church, just like in the days of the Bible. You may be surprised to see how few people actually do believe their church is the true church.

Glad that I got you surprised! :laugh: I think I did a poor job articulating what I was trying to get at. I was just wondering about the role of Peter and why you believe he had no primacy? That's all. I didn't want to get stuck in the semantics of the word. When was it invented, who invented it, etc. But rather what the word represents. So let me do my best to rephrase my question. I hope I get this right. Please bear with me. Are there any articles to help me understand why you believe Peter was not singled out among the 12? Not meant to strengthen the 12 should they fall? Not meant to feed the "sheep" and "lambs"? Does this make better sense? I hope this does a better job. Was looking for something to read during my lunch break or after work. Thanks! :)

I agree that Peter was singled out to a degree. He was the Senior apostle. He was not the pope. That was something invented by man at a later date. After Peter died and the other apostles died, the church that Christ established also died. It no longer had the authority to continue on. There were no more prophets and therefore no more scripture. That is why the New Testament ends. It isn't because God had nothing more to say, it's because His representatives were no longer alive. Yes, there were good people, called Christians, who tried to keep the church going but it was on their own, without revelation. During the Nicean creed (somewhere around 300 AD) they got together and tried to decide what God was like. There were no more prophets to declare God's word, it was now just man trying to come up with doctrine on their own. I could go on and on and on, but I'll stop. My only point was that Peter was not a Pope, that was a term created much later and that the authority and revelation ended shortly after Peter was killed.

Thanks for that response. I still don't understand how you arrived to that conclusion. That's why I am trying to understand why you believe that. Was hoping to get some articles to read that supports your belief. My whole philosophy is "the proof is in the pudding". Not trying to poke fun at you or anything like that. Was curious and wanted to understand why you believe that. Never the less I appreciate this dialogue. I truly do. :)

All the biblical names are different in Arabic Abraham --> Ibrahim, John --> Yohanna (???, come to think of it this is feminine????) etc. The MIL didn't like Adam and tried to get me to choose something a bit more Arab. Don't get me wrong, their names can be really nice, but I didn't want to label the wee'un. So I asserted my rights as head of the household (ha!) and threatened to call him George, which is unpronounceable to her side. LOLZ If & when no 2 comes along, we're hoping for a girl as there are plenty of names to choose from.....

If it's anything like the CoE, a claim of not wanting the job in the first place is very common, that way it's all God's will against one's own judgement. Some people may actually believe this, but for most my guess is this is just how the game is played. According to this[^] turning down the job is possible but rare. Understandably given the way you get to dress in the height of Byzantine fashion. I wonder if the outgoing one is part of the conclave to elect the new one?
