I don't necessarily NOT believe in life on other planets, but at the same time I have yet to see any evidence. Being a christian, I do look at the bible, but the bible says nothing about whether or not God created other planets with life on them - it neither confirms or denies their existence. I don't see having faith as an easier route in life, but maybe a more fulfilling one. Christians believe that God has a plan, that your life is mapped out and known to him. That things happen by his will, bad or good that there is a reason that he knows. In fact that that is true for every human, believer or not. Some people spend all their lives looking and God never reveals himself to them. Others see him in their first years. That I have not seen him yet is by his choice, he has a plan for me. Isn't that how it goes, from your perspective?

I like to think and do think that there is other life out there, including intelligent life (though we in our infinite human wisdom may not notice that it is intelligent.) One other point is the whole Life Must Be Like Us issue which leaves a bad taste in my mouth. How dare we assume that the only possible life has to be like us (us as in life on Earth, i.e. DNA, carbon based, requires oxygen etc.)

There are billions and billions of stars stars in our galaxy and there are billions of galaxies like ours out there. There's probably another version of you typing this into another version of CP somewhere a couple of billion light years away. The numbers add up so I would say it is definitely a possibility. The sheer size of the universe is so mind-boggling to me that I almost can't cope with it. Especially since we have a top speed of 3x10^8 m/s and that just doesn't get you anywhere fast in this universe. I am confused, has britney spears submitted a recent paper on cosmology? ;) Ad. Christian Graus wrote: Things naturally tend from order to chaos without outside influence. They do not tend from chaos to order. I won't pretend I understand physics very well but I think that while a system as a whole does move from order to chaos on its own, there may be a movement from chaos to order in some small "pockets" or "regions". But overall, the chaos, or entropy, tends to increase. The only reason that chaos increases is that it is statistically and probablistically (does such a word exist?) more likely to happen than atoms/elements of the system aligning themselves in perfect order. There are very few "well ordered" states, while the number of chaotic states is infinite. So statistically speaking, it is more likely for a system to end up in a more chaotic state. But this doesn't mean that it is completely unlikely, or impossible, for order to prevail, at least in small pockets. Maybe someone who understand physics will tell me if I am right or wrong? But if what I said above is right, you cannot dismiss evolution or "accidental life" just on the basis of this reason. You may have other reasons though, and I'm curious to hear about those. Christian Graus wrote: if they find it, I will believe it. No offence, but you will have to believe it if they find it. Religion or no religion. But anyway, as you or someone else said elsewhere, religion does not confirm nor deny life on other planets. Perhaps because it was inconcievable for the authors of the religious books. Please note that I'm not talking about any particular religion, so don't get offended.
