It is not vey much different that many hardware calculators that have a SHIFT button...

Except all those calculators that have a shift button also have the names of the shift-functions above the button to which they are assigned. That simple bit of design would have given all the context in the world to the up arrow, which, by itself, means nothing on a calculator.

It was a possible with the Windows XP calculator at least. I don't remember if it got removed with Windows Vista/7 or later. I thought it was still possible with Windows 7 though, but I might be wrong here.

Nope. I'm on 7 and just tried. No decimals in Programmer mode, which is kind of WTF :(

Have you noticed that the ln (natural log) button is removed from Windows 8 / Win 10 calculator? You can see the (original - win xp, win vista, win 7) had it. Old Windows Calculator (image)[^] Why they remove that? Oh, here's the terribly useful Windows 10 doc on the calculator. Ugh! Calculator in Windows 10[^] X| If you find the ln button in the Windows 10 calculator, please let me know. I need to calculate a natural logarithm immediately if not sooner.

The problem seems to be between the desk chair and the keyboard. I had no trouble finding it :)

The best thing about is: You can't calculate anything with decimals if you're in programmer mode... You have to switch to another mode for that. X| I prefer one mode for all purposes instead of being forced to switch to different modes. Whoever thought this was a grand idea needs to be slapped as well.

Didn't you see it said, "Touch Friendly"? That means "Function Light". Duh! You just made me revisit the Calculator on my Windows 7 system... it's a great calculator!

              - I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

IIRC there is a section (can't recall which) in Charles Petzold's book "Programming Windows", where he writes "No one said it would be easy".

But Petzold was talking about programming! not using!

I shouldn't be at all surprised if that's really what they think responsive design means. "Oh, it means that you see more if you make the window bigger!" yup. And the best part is that these **Great** **Upgrades** are forced on everyone.

In scientific mode, click the UP ARROW button.

In scientific mode, click the UP ARROW button. All of the function buttons are replaced. x^2 becomes x^3, sin becomes arcsin, and log becomes ln.
