Hello. This is no fun but I wonder if there is a public web-searchable - or other "inquire-able" - way to find out if a person has been incarcerated in the state of New York. And if he/she is not, could such inquiries/searches get this person into any trouble? A person dear to me, across the Atlantic, has vanished from the face of the earth. Thanks a bunch.

Well, given the numbers involved[^], you're right not to try to do it by phone. I love this statement to bits:

    Quote:

In the last forty years, incarceration has increased with rates upwards of 500% despite crime rates decreasing nationally.

Hey, Mycroft, can I borrow your clue bat[^]?

If he is not a US citizen I would contact his citizenship's embassy.

Looks like regularly scheduled maintenance intervals. 15 minutes on weekdays, 60 on weekends. It'd be interesting to see if it'a actually always down the interval, or just that they're not promising anything during that time period.

Living in NYC is indistinguishable from incarceration, but with the disadvantage that you don't turn up on any search engine (unless you're the tweety type), and nobody gives you food for free. (with apologies to the OP, sorry about your loved one's misfortune)

The trouble is that if you rope that "horse" of yours to the bars, it's likely to pull the whole building away.

Who thought that imprisoning criminals leads to a reduction of crime? He must be crazy! :omg:

..that is not what it is saying; crime is going down, and yet there are more criminals locked up. Which is not surprising, given the monetary incentive :)
