Give this a try: Instant Checkmate | Background Checks, Arrest Records and Public Records[^] - it's surprising what it can find, apparently! [edit] Forget it - they want money for the report before you are even sure it's the person you wanted, ratehr than someone with a similar name and state. [/edit]

It's a website! How the heek I'm not supposed to use it 24/7? Do they have people the info is sent to and who then look it up on paper?

Looks like regularly scheduled maintenance intervals. 15 minutes on weekdays, 60 on weekends. It'd be interesting to see if it'a actually always down the interval, or just that they're not promising anything during that time period.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. Bear in mind that it might not include federal facilities.

Living in NYC is indistinguishable from incarceration, but with the disadvantage that you don't turn up on any search engine (unless you're the tweety type), and nobody gives you food for free. (with apologies to the OP, sorry about your loved one's misfortune)

I'm not sure that's quite true: you get better food and medical care in prison!

I think it has enough torque to do that. :)

If a criminal is locked up he isn't able to commit crimes, thus the decrease. It just means that police forces are better at jailing criminals before they can commit a relevant number of crimes.

First part of your argumentation is incorrect. You can commit crimes while being locked up. You are also assuming that crimes are mostly committed by repeating criminals.

..we simply shipped our criminals to the US.

Not a bad assumption in the US, at least according to this link. Recidivism[^]

The Dutch have already built one wall; all <you know who> needs to do is to flood Belgium and Germany, and they'll build the others themselves.

Hello. This is no fun but I wonder if there is a public web-searchable - or other "inquire-able" - way to find out if a person has been incarcerated in the state of New York. And if he/she is not, could such inquiries/searches get this person into any trouble? A person dear to me, across the Atlantic, has vanished from the face of the earth. Thanks a bunch.
