Strange, when I run the code I get this error message: Fatal error: Cannot pass parameter 2 by reference in ... If you look at the PDOStatement::bindParam() documentation, the second argument is passed by reference, so I guess you can't pass a literal value by reference.

You can use a negative value for the pos argument (see here[^]). In this case, the beginning of the substring is pos characters from the end of the string, rather than the beginning.

It turns out [^] that Photoshop has an automation interface. So if you can use VBScript to automate it than it can be done with VB.Net.
