  • Hello Moto, V600
    C Cliff Dabrowski

I have the V600 and love it so far. I have not dropped it, but am experiencing some cracks along the silver edge of the faceplate. In fact, I replaced my first one a week after I got it for the same thing before I learned that it was not going to be any problem other than cosmetic. Picture quality is pretty good. Nice to always have a camera handy. I tried the Motorola BlueTooth headset also. I liked the voice quality, both send and receive, but the darn thing did not feel secure on my ear. I always felt like it was gonna fall off. This also affected volume so back it went. I was going to try an other brand but decided I could not really justify the $100 for a headset. Consider this a thumbs up for the BlueTooth functionality. Text messages have worked great. I can't seem to get MMS working but that may be a problem with setup that I have not addressed yet. I thought it was just supposed to work.

  • New Gmail Invites
    C Cliff Dabrowski

It looks like they are giving out invites again. It looks like GMail invites have taken a new form. There is no longer a link at the top saying "You have x invites", but instead, at the bottom of EACH email there is a link to invite the sender of the email to GMail. When you click on the link to invite someone it will tell you how many invites you have left.

  • Name That Tree!

We have a lot of Sumac here in Michigan. That certainly looks like the stuff. Make sure you read up on the characteristics of this stuff. Some varieties, if not all, are poisonous like Poison Ivy and Poison Oak. One of the BIG NO NO's includes burning. I was taught very early that if you do need to burn the refuse to be certain to wear a mask and stay upwind. You do not want to get a "rash" in your bronchial tracts. According to this[^] link, it takes a mere 1 nanogram (billionth of a gram) of urushiol oil to cause rash. Success is measured by ones ability to mask complexity with simplicity.

While not exactly what you are looking for... if it is acceptable to run the "image" in a VM, VMWare has a tool that may work for you. Take a look at VMware P2V Assistant 2[^]. This tool allows you to image your physical machine and run it in a VM. I have never used it but I am intrigued by the possibilities. Hope this helps!

A quote from this link[^]: Brendan Iribe and Mike Antonov, both 24, are also betting that their company -- which has created the framework to add pop-up menu boxes similar to Windows to anything from video games and television consoles to camcorders and cameras -- will be able attract attention from the major players who are part of the industry rush to connect devices with television at the center. With GFC, developers will be able to create slick-looking menu boxes with all the functions that most people have on their personal computers, but with the special effects and high-end graphics to make the boxes look and feel as though they belong in a game, in a camera or on television, Iribe said. Sounds interesting, but the proof is in the pudding.

No flame here, just a question. I support teaching about and honoring MLK. However, I think we need to restore a little balance. When was the last time school was closed for President's day? Our founding fathers no longer even warrant a damn holiday of their own and are lumped together as one. If you find a child that knows little more about President's day besides the fact that there is a sale on furniture with financing for six centuries same-as-cash, I would be surprised. btw, The white cape comment was very disrespectful. http://www.patriotism.org/presidents_day/[^]

LOL, Funny you should mention the Shuttle. I don't post much, but laughed out loud when I read this topic. I was changing jobs around 8 years ago and received a call from a head-hunter. After a few go-rounds, I was offered a nice 6fig plus salary working for a gov contractor. At first he would not tell me what I would be working on, but did after I turned down the offer. Seems I would have been working on the next generation of speed brakes for the shuttle. Cool offer and very lucrative, but I had just had a child, new house and could not make the move to another state. :(( Success is measured by ones ability to mask complexity with simplicity.

  • Package Application
    C Cliff Dabrowski

If you are using VS 6.0 then it comes with a version of InstallShield that you can use to package your distribution. If not then I would suggest getting a trial for any of the commercially available packages of trying the Windows MSI installer if your package warrants this complexity. Otherwise search google for shareware installer packages and give them a try. I have seen many over the years and it really depends on how complex your application is with regard to dependent components, license installation, registration, uninstall, user input and control of installation, etc. Success is measured by ones ability to mask complexity with simplicity.
