I hate to point out the obvious, but doesn't mob mean 1 A large disorderly crowd or throng 2 An organized gang of criminals; a crime syndicate ? :)

Only 10%??You know of course the starting salary for graduates in the UK is £13,000. So what do they expect? Why work hard if your pay is so low? For people who do not work freelance or are lucky enough to have a good job it must be a nightmare. I don't blame them for being "incompetent".

What's up with CP? [Solved]Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: Uhm.. why? Because it worked for me! No "ActiveX errors" will appear anyway either way. I had exactly the same problem starting maybe a day or two ago. Now I don't. Try it, it might work :)

What's up with CP? [Solved]You need to add http://www.codeproject.com as well as http://www.thecodeproject.com to your "trusted" zone be it in IE or your firewall.

Patch for the IE URL vulnerability available!Heheh, due to my security settings I only see a blank page in IE. Jokes don't work so well when you have to 'view source' :D

Knob JockeysRobert Edward Caldecott wrote: WTF? Depends which newspaper you read mate! That's true. All I'm saying is the Kilroy thing has put a match to the debate about PC, not just about racism and the middle east. Robert Edward Caldecott wrote: Do I want my license fee funding a racists tawdry daytime talk show? If we could chose, perhaps we would not even pay for BBC in the first place... The BBC let off Tom Paulin when he made racist comments about Jews. So for that reason I would rather not fund them. Robert Edward Caldecott wrote: Kilroy dropped a great big bollock Did he do it on purpose? It's a big gamble. The fact that we think it is stupid doesn't mean he won't get more popular. It will be a bad sign if he does :(

Knob JockeysPaul Watson wrote: I know what Michael Martin was saying. Yep, you explain your case well. Impossible to disagree. Paul Watson wrote: But don't be one of those knob jockeys, eh? That is a fair comment. As it is a cultural thing you always have to be aware of who you are talking to. But, if you get really pissed off, I guarantee you are not going to act like a saint. So I think we might as well ignore some dumb word he uses and listen to his main point. Anyway, when he calms down he is bound to edit it. Right now in the UK there is a huge backlash against PC-ness relating to Kilroy. Btw, I am not saying you are being PC, cleary you are saying be polite, which is always a good thing. Anyway, it's an interesting issue, but we must always remember not to become so idealistic as to lose a sense of reality. Paul Watson wrote: be pragmatic and realise there will be twats who diss without thinking As you right say. But "Michael Martin" does not seem like one of them IMO.

Knob JockeysI am sure every use of the term "knob jockey" I have heard was not intended to mean homosexual. I have never actually known any homosexual person to be offended by such phrases either. Maybe where I live is too chilled out. It is like if you call someone a "tw*t". Clearly, noone is intends to accuse the insult recipient of being a "female goldfish" (or whatever it means) :-D That was a joke, so only correct me if you are being ironic  Anyway, I don't see what the big deal is about getting annoyed about something. It happens to everyone. Better to be realistic that totally lose it after decades of self control. If you annoyed someone who you shouldn't have, go apologise to them. In my experience, 10 times out of 10, they will say "no big deal, we all have hard days". Apologies in advance if that is the lamest thing you ever read.

Giz a Job!!If you end up at a bad school the students will take out their economic deprivation on you. The test is if you can stand outside the school for 10 minutes without seeing, or being in, a fight. In the UK they give you free money to be a teacher. They do that to get good people in. That is the theory.

Hey mom, I made a webbrowserToby Jacob Rhodes seems to have done a lot of work on an alternative 'web browser', but rather than go for HTML he has designed his own system. See a list of his articles http://www.codeproject.com/script/Articles/list_articles.asp?userid=47237[^]. The best one is http://www.codeproject.com/Purgatory/globalwebapp.asp[^]. You must have a look at his homepage http://sevenmilesearch.com[^] and especially, this page http://www.sevenmilesearch.com/contactus.asp[^] :~ :-D I think it is wrong to encourage people too much. Yes, it is all very well saying "well done" and so on, but it is cruel to make some guy think they are going to become a millionaire, only to find they sell 0.0 units. That sort of thing could completely crush their spirit. I suppose anyone who claims to be the new god of something is setting themselves up for a fall :|

Giz a Job!!There are entire counties in the UK where no developer job has been advertised for years. Have you considered teacher training? You say you applied for a lecturing job? That is pretty poorly paid compared to an IT teacher. I don't know if that is relevant to your situation though. If you are getting desperate you may have to consider another career.

determine the value of code?IMO if someone asks you "what is the value of code" it is a trick question. Only someone of *ahem* limited intellect would actually come up with a formula. Obviously code only has value if it achieves some objective. In other words, does it do the job? Basically, if you are asked that in an interview, for example, don't start going on about lines of code multiplied by whatever, because they will think you are an idiot. Harsh, but true. As for the market value of a project, well, what are the competitors charging?

Has anyone used Html2Zip?I use this to http-compression my asp.net pages http://www.blowery.org/code/HttpCompressionModule.html[^] It's open source, free and works. Finding that saved my £300 :-D

Antweight programsYou can't weigh an ant because normal scales aren't sensitive enough. Instead you must weigh 1000 ants at once then divide the result by 1000.

Firewall MessagesWhen you know a program is supposed to be accessing your ISP's DNS server or whatever then all is well. But remember to check the path of the program. A trick sometimes used is to copy the name of a known exe and run it from another place or even spell it wrong in a way you don't immediately notice. Even something as simple DNS can lead to problems. Make sure your computer is only receiving DNS from your ISP's legitimate DNS server(s). That is easy to setup on most software firewalls, especially if it features a learning or "ask first" mode. I would put money on a new Windows DNS related exploit emerging in the near future :suss: :)
