Decision Time. Have your say....From a technology perspective, I think you should decide based on which project is the more interesting, rewarding etc. I guess you are concerned that your C++ skills might isolate you from future prospects. You can easily compensate for that, jump into an Opensource project for the other skill and start contributing code. From a career perspective, you really need to give consideration to security of employment. The rate of failure for startups is really high so I would research the employers pretty thoroughly - these are difficuly times and personally I would give a lot of weight to the security factor. Hope it helps :)

The SwitchHi Gen Just wondering if you should consider doing a course (online or onsite) in web development, maybe a short introductory course which would give you a feel for whats involved. There are also a lot of resources available on youtube, vimeo etc which would help you do a basic website quickly - again just to get a feel for whats involved. Best of luck

What do developers need?Great list. If I could expand on 4) Simple Samples. I would comprehensive simple samples. Break down the API into it the chunks of functionality it provides and give a simple sample for each. Make sure it compiles !! Tell me if it will fit my environment early on, I dont want to read through a ton of documentation to find that its only compatible with, for example, .Net framework 2.0

ASP.NET or Silverlight - and getting startedOne consideration, I believe, is the intended target audience for the project you mentioned. Its an important consideration, if the intended audience is the general public then you should consider the current level of users who have installed the Silverlight plugin - last time I checked (which is about a year ago), Silverlight penetration was approx 53%. It seemed also that many were domestic or private users who had installed Silverlight and that there were issues with adoption in some corporate environments as they are concerned about what resides behind their firewall. I like Silverlight I must admit and found the Vids, Labs etc on Silverlight.net[^] really useful
