I always keep my desktop clean. I have many applications and placing them on desktop would make it look dirty and I hate to search for a tiny link in the middle of a junkyard. I prefer to put everything on start menu so I can browse links systematically and there's also a search feature on win 7. If an application is very frequently used, I would create a link and drop it on C:\Windows so I can just press Win+R, type ff, press enter and poof! Here come Firefox.

Here's what I'd do: 1. Try explain to him what he did wrong and convince him to fix it. 2. If he doesn't want to fix it, ask permission to fix it. 3. If he doesn't give the permission, ask a written statement as to why I may not fix it. 4. If someone try to put the blame on me, I just show the statement.
