  • Don't mess with Steve's desk!
    F frakier

Well his name was not steve but he was on of those cubical nazi's with massive religions overtones and was always ready to remind you of such or how you are not living up to his standards. You know the type, takes offense to any personal cubical stuff unless it was his religion. We found out he was scared of clowns, so we set up his computer so that when it started the startup sound and image was from Stephen King's IT, with the volume wide open. He knocked down two cubical walls before he managed to get out of the rolling chair and when he got to the front door at a dead run, someone with a clown mask was on the other side of the door looking in. Took them about 30 minutes to get him calmed down. He just kept running in circles. We felt bad for about half a second then decided that in his best interest we would either give him a nervous breakdown or cure him of his clown phobia. Over the next couple of years we would randomly set something up, with similar results.

  • Cost of a tetanus shot in the US
    F frakier

I think it has more to do with what is added into the plan than the plan itself. Once a person attains office in the US, for the most part they never represent the people. They know whats best, and we are going to get it whether we want it or not, so they wrap a good idea like health care around some bad ideas, and hope know one notices the nasty gooey center they are trying to hide. Like putting a dogs medicine in hamburger meat. Some of the line by line items hidden in the mix read like pieces of George Orwell's 1984 and others sound like retirement bonuses and near guarantees for reelection through bribing the people of some states. Thats another problem with govt here, it is commercialized and franchised, some of the elected people involved should have there on collector cards, and sponsors, they already have the agents just like any organized sport here in the US.

Worked on a hog farm when I was a kid. Every so often you would get a big mean aggressive male. One of the other guys started carrying a gun, said the next time that hog came after him he was going to shoot it. It had torn a huge gash in his leg the month before. Well long story short, it attacked him again, never bothered me I think it just did not like him, he shot it in the head. Cheap nine mil, cheap bullets, the bullet bounced off the hogs thick skull and got him in the leg. Never slowed the hog down, two days later he was back to servicing the sows. One month later, they guy was still healing up, nasty infection.

  • Jobless IT graduate sues her college
    F frakier

A lot of the schools here in the US are stupid enough to guarantee a job placement, then in the fine print they explain different. Most people are just to stupid to read the fine print. And even more believe everything they are told. I have noticed people that deal with computer on a regular basis tend to read or at least look over the fine print. Maybe she was aiming for the wrong line of work to begin with if she thought her college would hold her hand till she found a job. I think this should fall under frivolous law suits. Make her pay for all the lawyers time (both sides), tax payer money spent on court time, then take back her diploma or whatever back. Then she can start all over.

There are other ways to can as well as this, this is just the way I like them. And this is for pickling one or two jars at a time of peppers and such. Canning ripe tomatoes or vegetables is completely different. Get the jar you will be using (widemouthed mason jars are the best.) Get one small and one large sauce pan. Put the flat parts of the lids in the small pan upside down, pour in a little vinegar, and put on very low heat. In large pan pour in approximately half the mason jar filled with vinegar, put on medium heat, let heat until it starts to steam. Warning: do not inhale the vinegar steam, it will take your breath away, it will also clear your sinuses, so if it does happen, try to not get snot all over your food, seriously i have seen people collapse from inhaling steam from vinegar, so be careful. Another note: When cutting up hot peppers, wear some gloves, with your hand in and out of water the skin will become soft, and the pepper juice will soak in. Very painful and anywhere you touch on your body will start to burn also, even if you wash you hands. I know of people who rubbed there eyes later in the day and it burned, or worse went to the bathroom, they should have worn gloves to cut up all that pepper, they were warned. Pack you jars with whatever you are pickling. I like to put in a little onion, pepper, and green tomatoes. Some people add sugar and/or spices to the heated vinegar for different tastes. Pickled eggs is very similar, hard boil the eggs (peel), pack in jar with some peppers, some ground Cayenne and follow the same instructions. I do not eat them myself, but my dad loves them. With a coffee cup or something similar, get some of the hot vineager and pour into the jars over the contents till almost full. You may need to heat more vinegar I do it this way to keep from wasting the vinegar. Carefully fish out some of the lids. Use a towel and make sure all the lids are on tight. Lay another towel out on the counter, turn each jar over carefully with the top down on the towel, cover with another towel and wait. When you hear a pop sound the lid has sealed. Wait till they cool then wash the jar off and place on a shelf somewhere till you need them. Hope this makes since, maybe i should have written it like a program flow, it probably would have read better that way anyhow. You can also make refrigerator pickles. Put onion(cut into rings or wedges), pepper, cucumber (peeled cut sliced into wedges), cucumber peals as well, cauliflower, whatever in a

  • Real Software

I owned the pre version and version 1, it was for mac only, then they started supporting compiling for pc as well, the version I have never really pulled the pc build off though. All i was using it for is little quick helper apps, like using it to populate text in quark xpress, {recipe cards, for printing company}. I understand it got better at the pc builds, but have not used the newer versions myself. Also, speaking for myself, it seemed to be very similar to vb at the time and the same rules applied. it could make programs that were as complicated or simple as you wanted to work with. It also lacked database support at that time as well, I understand that has been fixed as well, not sure what the support is though. Hope someone with more info drops by to help you, you may want to try asking some mac specific programmers if they ever used it. Oh, and the people involved with the program were very nice, and very helpful. Once had the main programmer, andrew i think was his name, help me out with a problem himself. And he was know for visiting the message boards on the site an helping people out all the time. Hope i got his name right, been a few years. Check they may have a rc version that you can download and play with, eventually it will expire as well as any programs written with it but you could get an idea of how it works. {of course i'm basing this on memory from years ago so..} Good luck.

  • Evil Computers? just a thought prompted by reading Dial-up users "don't want broadband"
    F frakier

Dial-up users "don't want broadband"[^] I read this article, and got to thinking. I know people who will not even use a computer, much less the Internet. They believe that the technology is evil, a tool of the devil, etc. They use phones (land lines) and cars, etc they just do not trust computers. You should hear some of the rants that I've heard about the government and the push to expand Internet coverage here in America. Now these are good people, the type that would give the shirt off there back to help someone if they thought the person needed it, and never doubt or think twice about it. I know four people who believes this, they are not related and with the exception of two who know each other trough me, they do not know each other. I've actually converted one, he still will not use a computer, but he comes to me to look up information for him. Mostly on old western movies and book, that he collects. These four people are older, and vote religiously. If statistics are to be believed older people vote much more often than younger people as well as being more likely to sit through a phone call answering a survey. Now the first thing someone doing a poll like this would ask would be. "Do you own or use a computer connected to the Internet." But I may be giving too much credit to the poller. I've had some call that have topics all over the spectrum, not even sure what they were polling for. You know how it is a little bored, so mess with the poler's head night. So, here's the question. Do you know anyone like this, what's your thoughts, is there are a large enough community out there that believe this. Could they effect polls without the poller realizing who they are talking too. People like this are not going to have a blog or website, where they are members. So you may know someone and not even know it.

I work with a lot of companies from New York area (the north) and I'm from Georgia (The South). Sometimes I and they really need a Georgia to New York Dictionary. In terms of miles we are not that far apart. Also if there are any two cities that should be sister cities it's New York and Atlanta. The only real difference between the two is when a New Yorker tell you off, you know you've been told off. I've had friends from up north leave a restaurant here in the south, talking about how nice the waiter / waitress was, did not have the heart to tell them how nasty the waiter / waitress was really being.

My brother had dyslexia, hated to read and was failing school because of it. Some cousins, friends and myself were into D&D, we played ever so often and my brother always wanted to play. But he did not know the rules. So i gave him a players manual from one of the box games told him to read it and then he could play. He pestered anyone he could to help him read the manual. And when we got in from school he would study the manual like it was for a test. Once he had all the rules down he was better at keeping up with all the stats than I could, did i mention even though he could not read good because of the dyslexia, for his age he was an absolute genius with numbers. Try running a game with a 9 year old correcting your math. I always said my brother taught himself to read and work around the dyslexia, even when the school system would not help him. My brother just says that Gary Gayax taught him to read. :rose:

I think after so many complained about firefly the new way of handling shows is to create one season, and cancel it. Then wait to see how many complain, Jerico is a good example. So I guess what we should all do is refuse to watch the first season, until they have already contracted the second. Of course then who would rally to support the show when it was canceled. This practice is starting to become SOP.
