I use WordPress on my blog - it seems a fairly "sensible" package, with a large number of plugins, very simple to set up (for me especially - it was a single-click install :]). However if you want to really compare the various packages you should check out OpenSourceCMS[^] - it provides a bunch of pre-installed Blogs (and other packages such as Wiki's), and you have full control over it as a kinda "try before you gnu". Each package gets wiped every hour and replaced with a clean, fresh install. Very handy for evaluating packages without having to install them yourself. -- modified at 7:08 Tuesday 30th May, 2006

Where is Microsoft going today? One of the problems I can see with ditching "legacy" support is that they would then be open to much more competition. If with Vista MS decided that it would not support any of the previous code/applications, instead requiring either a dual-boot or running a VM system, then there would be no advantage to running Vista over any other OS - and considering Windows' main competitor is essentially free, I don't think MS would be willing to take the risk. That said, it would be amusing to see Vista running all it's apps in a port of WINE

Don't you hate it when ...I tend to save it up. There's usually someone who acts like they know everything just a little better than everyone else. But at some point they'll slip up, and that's where you jump in to correct them. Makes you feel big, them feel stupid, and the world is put back to order.

[Message Deleted]By "porn application", I guess you could do a search for any image or movie viewer written in MFC - that should do it. Alternatively there's always "HotBabe" (think that's the name), which shows you your current CPU load by way of a scantilly-clad cartoon woman. The higher the CPU load, the more nekkid she gets. I guess that could be classed as porn if you're pre-pubescent and find naked cartoon people a turn-on.

No .dsw fileThere is a .vcproj file in the archive, which means it's a VC.NET (?) project, I think. Microsoft moved away from the .DSW/.DSP thing after VC++ 6.0. There are two things you can do - either create a new project and import the files (as mentioned already), or you can use a .vcproj converter. I have one here, I can't rememeber where I downloaded it from. Actually - I think it was codeproject. /me does a quick search... Try this[^]. It works for me.

Quick poll - Cats or dogsShouldn't that be ":woof: :woof: :woof:"?

Storage technology of the futureIf he's anything like me, he'll still have a cdrom drive in constant use in his PC (although it will prolly be 10 times the size of the average pc). I still have a bunch of C90 tapes to load stuff onto a ZX Spectrum if I need to. Kinda prefer loading from CF Card, tho' :]

Wiki recommendationsI'm looking at setting up a Wiki for one of my projects. For what I want I'll probably be going for phpWiki, as it looks rather nice. However, a site that was useful for me in deciding what to go with is WikiMatrix[^] - it's a comparison site of a whole bunch of Wiki engines, allowing you to compare what each provide. Not sure how up-to-date it is at the moment, tho'.

Happy Valentine's DayYou got reminded it was Valentine's Day because Bob is being attacked by some kinda Triffid? Or is it Rangdo the aspidistra?

Do I not like this?"2- u must leave a message about ur opinion" It'll be interesting to see some of the opinions people will leave ;)

Do you remember ?This is far from being what you want, but I just did a quick search on the interweb and came up with some stencils you can buy for men's eyebrows[^]. Handy if you've had an accident with a roll of sticky-tape.

FontsAlso, I just remembered Font Foundry[^] - a while back I was really "into" fonts (does that sound wierd?), and this was a good resource of free (or cheap) fonts. I've lost most of my bookmarks for decent collections these days, but FF may be useful.

FontsFirst up, Gratz on the whole Marriage thing. Nice. Regarding fonts, I have a bunch of CD's at home with fonts on, all "Royalty Free". Now I'm not suggesting I send you these (tho' if you're really desparate...), but have a look around your local computer-games shop (didn't check where you're from - in the UK go to Game, PC-World, even Woolworths). Usually there's a spinning rack of cheapo CD's - on there companies like Softkey (I think) often do CD's of Royalty-free fonts for about 5 quid. Usually for a few thousand fonts. Not free, but stupidly cheap. Could be worth checking out.

DOTDSolitaire and FreeCell, surely :p

DOTDDOTD: Dilbert Of The Day. DOAPD: Dilbert Of A Previous Day (I think). The latter came about because the original DOTD was posted to the Lounge technically a day late. As for ROTFL : Rolling On The Floor Laughing. And one for all techies to know when asked an idiotic question: RTFM ("Please read the manual" or something like that ;p).

Sounds a little to me like a "motivational" poster. I prefer the ones you can find here[^]. Tricky to pick a favourite, but I do like "Failure : When your best just isn't good enough." Aah joy. I really should get one of their calendars for work.

which is correct (English speaking world): e-mail or email?Doing a search on AskOxford[^] (not sure just how related to the OED this is) for "email" gives a list of matches, the first one being this[^]. Doing a search for "e-mail" gives the same list of matches, none of which is actually "e-mail". Not sure what that tells you exactly, but to me it says "email not e-mail". Tho' these days maybe we should rename it iMail. Hmm. Cheers, iCaPod.

Ahhhhhh EliteThe ZX version did kick some ass, but it's another religious argument (which version of Elite was better? - depends on where you played it first I guess). As for worthy successor - Eve:Online is fairly good, or if you don't go for the MMO "thing" X3 is supposed to be a very good kinda freeform game. I'm thinking of buying it, once I've play a demo to see just how lovely it is. Rated fairly well in PC-Gamer(uk). Hmm.

Router + Firewall + NAT = ???I've not checked because, frankly, it's lunchtime and I'm hungry. But have a look at portforward.com[^] - it's a handy site that shows how to set up routers to allow various bits of software. Not sure if it has your router listed, but I know it has mine (a d-link jobby). I realise that you probably already know about the port-forwarding of your router, but it may help. And it's a useful site anyway.
