Viruses.. They are getting annoying!!David Knechtges wrote:
Another way to get rid of it without putting it in another machine is to get something like Ultimate Boot CD for Windows and run your antivirus from that CD. That CD has proven invaluable to me for troubleshooting and rescuing dead or dying machines.....
Nods in agreement...best tool I have used.

Viruses.. They are getting annoying!!...when are users gonna learn not to believe everything their web browser tells them while surfing porn. Technically, that's more spyware/adware than virus but you are right they dig in like ticks and refuse disable or block everything that could fix them easily. They key to removing most of these to disable System Restore as it sticks itself in there and restores itself on restart. From there scanning from safe mode or from a DOS based AV will usually start to sweep it up. You may need to scan again in Windows and do some manual cleaning Hosts File, IE Add-ins and etc. This is just social engineering at it's finest like the Anna Kornikova virus.

Accordion Control inside a CollapsePanel control odd behaviorI'm developing an acsx which has an Accordion control inside a CollapsePanel. If the control loads with the CollapsePanel collapsed, when I expand or collapse panes in the Accordion control the panel which comprises the CollapsePanel's body resizes accordingly with the Accordion pane. If the control loads with the CollapsePanel expanded, the CollapsePanel's body does not resize with resizing on the AccodionPanes. However, if I collapse and expand the CollapsePanel then it starts working as expected. I have tried expanding the CollapsePanel by default by setting the Property on the CollapsePane in design mode and throught code in page_load (setting Collapse=true and ClientState="true"). Either way the behavior is the same. I am using .NET 2.0 with VS2005. I am using toolkit version 1.0.20229.20821. Thanks, Jeff

Weven Tray NotificationsI thought I read that there was some bug in this functionality but I cannot seem to find the article. However here is a work around option... http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=638[^]

Weven download lockup?Agreed. I am extremely unimpressed with IE8. It's terrible actually and I'm generally a pretty pro-MS guy. The JavaScript engine seems slow and prone to lock ups, the whole tab separation architectural seems to have been half finished, and the interface is clunky. Nevermine that the lack of an add-on model and the developer tools are poor to nonexistent. It finally drove me to make the switch to Firefox. I am extremely impressed with FF 3.5. It is stable, fast and much more user friendly than IE8. No matter whether it's IE or FF, I still have trouble accepting the fact that my browser now swallows up over 100MB of RAM but alas that's what you get when RAM is cheap.

This is what got me too. The State of California is nearly bankrupt. They are handing out IOU's for the first time since the Great Depression and LA is not far behind. This family of lunatic millionaires is sticking the city with a $4 million dollar bill for this circus. Are you $#!^!*@ me? It's really high time we put an end to this kind if thing.

What every programmer should know about...Exactly, no one is saying memorize the circuit diagrams but understanding the concepts is enough. Just skim the parts that get a little thick...

Stuff that every programmer should know but isn't necessarily in the school booksWhen you assume you make an *** out of you and me. But seriously I think you can assume they now how to Tweet, to Facebook, to AIM , to Limewire, and a few others but why should you assume they actually know how to use a computer. Coming out of High School... it's not like back in they day when to get your computer to work you had to constantly juggle settings in the autoexec.bat and config.sys. Even if they do know the basics, I can't tell you how many competent computer users I have surprised by using Windows-R, Window-E, or Window-M. We all have tips and tricks that we have picked up and assume everyone knows but... Devoting a couple hours to basics and tips in an introductory course is a good thing.

How to get into IT? -
How to get into IT?I agree. Help desk and tech support positions can be a good way to get your foot in the door in order to prove yourself and gain valuable experience. I started out in support, answering calls for the world most popular word processor for an outsource support firm. Not a lot of fun but it got me enough experience out of the gate to move to bigger and better things. Many support roles require nothing more than an A+ Certification as a starting qualifier.

Top Indian CEO: Most American Grads Are ‘Unemployable’I don't know if the grads are to blame but more so the Universities and the advisers. I have a friend who is few years younger than me, graduated 2005 with an IT degree from a top technical school. She learned nothing... Nada... Niet... Completely unemployable on the degree. Apparently, they will quite happily take your money and let you take a whole bunch of disconnected classes. So that you have enough credits but no knowledge or base in any area of IT... Astounding really.
