  • need help copying from DVD - CRC errors prevent full copy.
    J Jesse Evans

Well, once again CP has been a great resource for problem solving. I was able to get the video off the DVD and onto my PC using a program call jfilerecovery. (www.jfilerecovery.com[^]) It was a bit slow but it worked. Thanks again, folks!

Are you sure the entire dvd plays? Try dragging the play indicator (seek indicator) towards the end of the drive.

As i said, it plays fine on a consumer DVD player. I just seem to find a PC drive that will read it correctly.

I've tried all the usual solutions. The CRC error prevents these apps from reading the entire file. I just found a couple of utilities, jfilerecovery and imgburn, that are purported to read past CRC errors. I'm trying jfilerecovery right now.

  • need help copying from DVD - CRC errors prevent full copy.
    J Jesse Evans

I'm trying to pull some family videos off a friend's DVD (which was burned from some videotape) and I keep getting copy errors. If I just drag the file to my desktop, an error message says "Invalid MS-DOS function". Then I remembered xcopy, which has an option to ignore errors. Well it doesn't ignore all of them, so I'm still stumped. Anyone know of a copy solution that will truly ignore CRC errors? The funny thing is that the DVD plays just fine in a consumer DVD player; it just can't be read by a PC drive (I've tried five different drives so far...).

  • Toyota Acceleration Issues
    J Jesse Evans

Because, unlike turning a key, which is almost like walking for most people, the new keyless controls all operate differently, depending upon who made the car. For most Toyotas, one must press the start button for more than three seconds to turn off the engine. Try remembering that while you're trying to control a car going 100 MPH! Oh, and once you turn the engine off, the brake assist no longer works! Ah, technology!

  • My Question on Adoption... [modified]
    J Jesse Evans

Mr. Frog, You might look into Open Adoption, in which you are chosen by the birthmother to be the parent of her child. My wife and I did this 16 years ago using an originazation called The Independent Adoption Agency (they are based in the San Francisco Bay Area but have offices in most major cities). The process is failrly simple but you and your partner must be willing to open yourselves up. It works like this: you and your partner write a 'Birthmother' letter (kinda of like a parental resume) in which you explain who you are, why you want to adopt, etc. These go into a book. The propective birthmothers go though an intake process and are shown letters from the book that the organization feels might be a good match. After that, it's up to the birthmother and you. Between all of you, you set the rules. No contact at all, some, lots, it's whatever you work out. We met our adopted son's birthmother while she was still carrying him and adopted him right out of her womb (so to speak). Our son, now 16, has known of his 'status' from the very beginning and he's fine with it. We see his birth-grandmother most holidays (sadly, his birthmother passed away when he was 12). It all seems to have worked out quite well for us; of course, your mileage may vary... Good luck to you!

You might try good ol' xcopy.exe The /D switch can be used to copy only files whose source time is greater than the destination time and /H allows copying system and hidden files.

You must have missed the first commercial break. Those BSG episodes were billed as "Webisodes" and made up a standalone BSG story shown to generate excitement for season 7, which starts tonight. A new "chapter" was shown at the end of each of the commercial breaks during "Pitch Black". I did not make it to the end... did they make it back to the fleet? Had nothing to do with the DTV switch-over...

I like Password Safe. It does not have the exact features you're looking for, but as a simple password keeper it works great! Here's more from its help file:

Well, I figured it out on my own... Turns out the the XP-SP3 release removes the address toolbar, due to some legal issues (so I've read). If you, like me, miss this feature, here's how you can get it back: Restore address toolbar deskband after installing xp sp3/[^] I fould the one from Niversoft to be the best for me; your mileage may differ.
