I've had my Gateway 450 (1.6g Centrino, 768m ram) for about a year now. Very long battery life is important to me and it has (had) about 4+ hours. The battery has gone south finally and is down to 2-3 hours. Still a very good laptop. Good keyboard. Light. I would consider Centrino as it is supposed to run cooler than AMD or P4 and has good speed.

Its possible that the method is doing too much. One of the "smells" (as Fowler puts it) is if you have trouble with a name, perhaps its because the method is too diffuse. See if you can whack it up into bits which then follow the old VerbObject() motif. Just a thought...

Changing technology could be terrifying. I suppose horseless carriages (automobiles) were to folks at the turn of the century. But they did not remain backwards compatible to the technology that they replaced: They did not require reins or buggy whips. I'm sure those with vested interests were quite unhappy about that. Change itself is terrifying. Ragtime was honky-tonk music, not at all respectable. The waltz was dangerous for the youth as they might get carried away in passion. There are only two choices, as I see it. Look back or look ahead. PCs could still utilize punch cards and this site could be dedicated to COBOL and RPG. Or, we embrace the advance of technology, cast aside our buggy whips, and order another big bowl of 8TB spaghetti (I'll take two).

As a proud resident of Lexington, I must take issue with the disparagement of my town. The Lexington Public Library (http://www.lexpublib.org/[^]) is quite good. It has six branches with the newest, the Beaumont Branch built in a style reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright (http://www.lexpublib.org/libinfo/beaumontbranch.cfm[^]). As to the prosecution of the book-napper, I have no knowledge, so no comment. As to livability, Lexington is located in rolling hills of bluegrass - which is why there are so many horse farms here. Here is a comparison of livability metrics for your perusal: (comparison)[^]. Note that Lexington has far more college grads, and graduate degree holders than the national average. Its relatively inexpensive to live here with a great healthcare system. Overall, Lexington is a great place to live. I invite everyone to come for a visit.

A Tyvek suit will help, if you can find one (link at bottom), with rubber gloves duck taped to the sleeves of the suit, and a dust mask. These are the things we wore when working around the fiberglass. I worked in maintenance at a Japanese auto manufacturer in north-central Kentucky for seven years. My department (plastics) made the headliners for the autos we manufactured. The headliners were made of a fiberglass substrate, and the trimmings and such were ground and sent out. When the grinder went down, maintenance had to come to the rescue. Boy! Sometimes is could be downright miserable. 90 degrees with the above protective equipment, fiberglass dust all in the air. Ugh! As one who spent years working around fiberglass, I found a couple of remedies for the itchiness. A small bit of vinegar on the affected area can help. The most effective for me, though is cortizone skin cream. Hope this helps.

A guy I worked with (in central Kentucky) always referred to his wife as "Dragon Lady", and his two boys as "Rocket Head", and "Bird Dog". Now, don't take from this any stereotypes about Kentuckians. He, as well as all those in the shop, is a very intelligent, educated man. So, at a company-sponsored banquet, several fellow team members, as they bumped into he and his lovely wife, would say, "So, this is the 'Dragon Lady'". She didn't know of the moniker. Afterwards she was referred to as "Sweet Petunia".

In it he talks about what changes to the ingredients and techniques do what to cookies. He highlights three: The Thin, The Puffy, and The Chewy. Good Eats is a wonderful show especially for geek types. AB spends a lot of time going over the why as with the how. Showing techniques so that one may take the basic concept and extend to other dishes. Kinda "teach a man how to fish...". I highly recommend it to anyone.
