Big Game payout optionDepends on the state. Here in Maryland, you apparently get to choose when you win. At least that's what a gas station attendant told me.

Merriam Webster Word of the Day: MaunderI got that e-mail too, and thought of Chris as well. :) Don't worry, Chris, we don't find any of your discourse to be in the least bit indistinct or disconnected. Pearls of wisdom, and nothing else. ;)

DCOM access deniedI've run into this problem many times. I know it's a hack, but try this. Create an account on each machine, both with the same name and password, and preferably administrator rights (NOT domain accounts). Reference: COM Security FAQ from MSDN. Hope this helps. Nick Carruthers

Five More Firefighters!Sadly, recent reports seem to indicate that the report of the rescue five firefighters trapped in the initial collapse is erroneous. However, two or three firefighters trapped during the rescue efforts today were rescued after being trapped for several hours. Nick Carruthers

Microsoft Flight SimulatorI believe the Spiderman trailer had him catching some crooks by spinning a web between the two towers. As someone already mentioned, it was only for the trailer, so the movie is still OK. I also heard that some hyper-polical rap group was set to release an album that depicted the WTC towers being blown up w/ the lead singer pressing the plunger. It's been pulled, of course. I wonder what they're going to do with the new series "24" with Keifer Sutherland. It was one of the most anticipated series of the new season, but given the subject matter, I don't know if they will air it. God damned terrorists. Nick Carruthers

Five More Firefighters!Being an EMT in a volunteer fire station (www.cvfc.org), this is especially good news for me. You hear about Line of Duty Deaths nearly every week, but to hear that upwards of 300 emergency workers may have lost their lives in a single incident is especially disheartening. Thank God some of them made it. Here's to finding more survivors (Fire/EMS/Police or otherwise). Nick Carruthers

Why do <i>you</i> post articles here? One word: Ladies The women love a published author, especially when your publications deal with the intricacies of Windows shell programming and the IShellExtInit interface. Seriously? It's nice to share something you're proud of and maybe help someone out. It's also kind of cool that people from Oz to Singapore to Swaziland might read and get something out of your article. Nick Carruthers

Roots of CPSame here. Kind of funny how it has since pretty much displaced CodeGuru. Oh how the times have changed. I sent in the two articles I had posted on GodeGuru, and soon after got an enthusiastic "thank you" from Chris. That was nice. :-) Nick

Next 'Star Wars' movie has been named. The title only seems appropriate, given the news of the day. http://www.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/europe/08/06/clone.doctor/index.html I hope those clones don't end up attacking us. Nick

Sharing Internet access at homeI highly recommend the Linksys as well. Works like a charm, and you don't have to keep one of the machines on all the time. Nick

.Net, ILDASM, and Reverse EngineeringHere's a question I've always had about .Net: Using the ILDASM tool, you can view the MSIL code of virtually any CLR executable, complete with undecorated variable names and everything. Already, I've seen someone offering the source code to some program that they reverse engineered (granted it was a very simple program). The MSIL syntax is simple enough that the average programmer could recognize exactly how something was being done. Is there a way in .Net to encrypt your MSIL code, or at least obsfucate it a bit? Otherwise, it seems pretty dangerous to me, tantamount to giving out your source code. Nick Carruthers
