Make sure the DefaultTracerListener is set to the debug window on the desktop as well as the laptop. Yeah, they do... They are all writing to 'trace.log' and each one is connected to a formatter that knows how to write out the fields that get passed in. I even have them all connected to one inbound entry point, the 'All Events' category... I have a feeling that this is what is causing the multiple files to be opened up... If I just connect on Listener to the category and send in events formatted in that way so it sees the right format, it works fine, but I want to have different formats for my messages so I am trying to define different listeners and formatters. There does not seem to be a way to tie multiple formatters to a single Log without defining multiple Listeners. I had figured that I would just define different formatters and they would be used based upon what methods I called and what signatures that provided (made sense to me and would be how I would build it) but that doe snot seem to be the case. Yes, I know how to use the statements themselves. I have been using them for years now. The oddness seems to be specific to VS2010 and how it allows, or rather does NOT allow the output from these statements to leave the VS environment. In previous versions of VS I used to be able to fire up a unified debug collection tool like windebug and gather all my debug statements in one log file This was helpful when trying to gather coordinated debug between several different processes together in one area. Now it appears as if the IDE gets in the way and blocks that ability. You can see the output from Debug.WriteLine in the IDE area but it never makes it out into the standard debug stream like it used to so collecting it together from several instances of VS at once is not possible. This also means that now I have to write my debug statements to provide a date and time component in them where collecting them in the windebug tool used to do that for me, and once again, used to do it from several instances at once. Agreed... I have no problems with C#. I use it all the time. I just am aggravated with the inconsistencies of the editor. It’s not the languages fault, and I didn’t intend for it to sound like that. More ideas: 3. IIRC the bootability of a partition consists of a single bit; once cleared it should be gone. 4. It's not surprising at all. Just because they are made by the same company, especially Microsoft, doesn't guarantee there is complete synchronicity between them. These are two different products with two different purposes. SharePoint is however highly extensible so you can implement features that may not be included OOB. To get the proper column name to show up you need to modify the contenttype CAML and change the display name. Some things just can't be done via point and click.
