  • Must have Android apps
    R RyanJOberg

As above, Advanced Task Killer is a nice one to have, extended the battery time on my evo quite a bit. Below are others I use that are all free or have a free version. 3Banana - Note program that allows you to tag your notes in categories '#category' style as well as mark them private. Barcode Scanner - Use it to transfer pages/links to apps/contacts with friends that use Android by creating a 2D barcode. Bartender - I am the designated mixer when friends and I get together. Bubble - Bubble level, useful for hanging things so the GF can tell me they aren't straight anyway. Bump - Okay, I got this jokingly, your phone has to have a solid connection, but it handles transferring data very smoothly otherwise. Wish it could use wifi/bluetooth. Dolphin Browser HD - I prefer this to Opera Bookmarks to SD - In combination with Dolphin, backs up your bookmarks to your SD card Gigbox - Keeps track of up to 50 bands and lets you know when they will have a gig in your predefined distance. Goggles - Uses your camera to take a picture and Google search based on it. Useful for well known items, doesn't work for everything. Google Translate - Translation program, useful for when I forget a word in Spanish, usually accurate Grocery IQ - Lets you sync grocery list between phones, could use a few tweaks such as using the barcode scanner Howcast - 'How to' video service, sometimes it is easier to show someone how to do something than explain it. Kindle/Nook - Your choice, supposedly integrates with your device so you can read in either place. Listen - Podcasts Movies - Uses rotten tomatoes for movie reviews and works with Google Maps to find theaters and showtimes and if the theater allows it, even buy tickets Pandora/Slacker Radio - I like Slacker as it allows my stations to have a bit more customization on the station level. PDF Viewer - No explanation required Shazam - Listens to music, tries to figure out what song it is. Doesn't work with humming a tune, doesn't work with more obscure stuff either. ShopSavvy - Kind of like Barcode scanner, but when scanning, it searches the net and your surrounding area for prices of said item. Supposedly will search with pictures as well but I haven't tried that. Speed Test - Speedtest.net's upload/download speed test Sweet Dreams - Allows you to have the phone automatically turn off ringer/change to vibrate/change volume at

Oh how I miss good Texas food. Real brisket, good cow meat, none of this pig stuff unless they are in the hot links. I am going to have to visit eventually just to gorge myself on red meat smoked to perfection over an open pit. Yes, that is the biggest reason I miss living there. That and the mild winters and the dry heat of the summer (DFW).

  • The burger survey
    R RyanJOberg

This is because so many businesses are worried about people getting food born illnesses from their burgers so they overcook them. Even places which don't mass produce usually won't cook anything under medium if you are lucky and more than likely it will be medium well. Then they do the worst thing to a burger besides over cooking them... they smash the thing so all the juices ooze out all over the grill. :(( Personally medium rare is as cooked as I want them. The very core should still be a little cool for my tastes. This along with never seasoning with more than maybe a little fresh black pepper and salt but the meat should be the star. If I am feeling fancy then it will get a bit of good cheese made at a dairy down the road from me. If I am feeling healthy then it gets lettuce and a few tomato slices. The bun should be slightly toasted and either mayo or a good brown mustard, never anything that is bright yellow.

Eccos. Worth the extra cost and dealing with the sizing here in the States. Have my pair that I got 4 years ago, great condition except some scuffs that need polishing. When I am developing at home, it is barefoot all the way!

They also have a simply everything minus land line calls. Which is $89/month with about 900 minutes for calling land line phones. My guess is that he is adding all the monthly access fees which jack up the bill quite a bit. I am using a Hero myself and it is good but not perfect. It still needs to be reset after a few days of use because it starts to run sluggishly. Also make sure you update it as it fixes a few random reset issues and other bits and pieces. My guess is that they are selling up to date phones but one never knows.

Went to see the movie for "Wow, pretty" and to spend some time with the GF. I left the movie with four messages, George Bush was evil: "Must fight terror with terror" anyone? The entire theater cracked up at that line. We shouldn't be in the middle east since all we want is oil. And that we shouldn't disrespect the earth, we should be more like the native americans and hippies. None of those are horrible messages (soapbox conversations aside) but repeatedly shoving them in my face isn't the best way to get me to agree with you. Cameron is a pretentious twit (message number four).

I'm torn on this one, I liked Downey in 'Iron Man' and 'Tropic Thunder' and I have enjoyed every other Ritchie movie that I have seen. However this just seems Anti-Holmes, perhaps if I look at it as a reboot to the universe like what Star Trek did, Holmes meets Snatch and Rock N Rolla... nah it'll never work. X| Disney's 'The Great Mouse Detective' will probably be more true to Holmes than this one.

  • Google Android phones

I have played with the G1 for a while, seemed pretty well designed and I liked the interface. My contract is nearly up and I am looking at getting the HTC Hero next week on a one month trial. Although I might miss the physical keyboard I have now, HTC makes a solid phone in my experience. If it is really bad I will try to let you know. The problem that I noticed on the older android based phones was that they were a little underpowered but hopefully with the new ones coming out having better processors and more ram, that should help it out. The biggest complaint I have is that you can expand your memory via microSD, but you can't run apps on it unless you root the phone. Of course if you pull the card while running an application on it, you risk bricking the whole thing. The unlock 'code' is difficult depending on how complex you make the pattern. A friend of mine made it so you had to go between other points to hit the next location, then frequently took three or four tries to unlock it. You won't have the huge app store that apple has, but really how many word processors and fart simulators do you really need? Though I am sure there will be plenty on android in the future.

I think that is the key for where to look. I spent some time backpacking in the mountains of NM and I was in awe when I looked up at the night sky and saw other arms of the Milky Way. Not something you are used to growing up in the big city, it makes you feel incredibly small and insignificant.
