Shake It Babe!!!!!!Be warned. This link screwed up my browser even after my system was rebooted. When IE is maximized, it thinks the top of the screen is the middle of my desktop. Not sure what this thing did.

Concorde's last flightI live in Columbus, OH and back in the 80's, they would bring one to Port Columbus one a year for a special trip. I was there one year and as it took off, the pilot asked if he could do a circle and buzz the tower (my friend is a pilot and brought his portable radio). It took off and we watched it do a circle around the airport and sure enough, he buzzed the runway at about 100 feet. When got to the end, he opened up the engines and pulled up. It looked like he was going straight up. It was cool. Todd

Squatters?I found out last night that the guy living in the squatted house was picked up by the police. He was in the house and tried to sneak out in a friends house. A neighbor followed the get away car and phoned it into police. Also, the guy who is listed on the title (my old neighbor)is in a hospital in Texas. The police mailed him a letter to become "his representative" which gives them the right to boot the dead beats. Todd

Squatters? Here is an odd story... For the first half of this year, I lived next to a house about two years old that was abandoned because the owner didn't make the house payment. It was foreclosed on. This past July, a couple in their forties moved in. I watched the guy turn his water on using a street key. This is the main hookup to the city lines. I thought that was strange but left it at that. This past Sunday, I looked outside my window at around 12:30am. I saw around 10 poster sized signs in this guy's yard. Curious, I went for a look. Here someone placed signs in his yard that said "evict me", "I do not pay a mortgage", "I do not pay taxes", and "free appliances." The next morning I visited another neighbor that is a friend. He explained that the family goes from house to house and take up residence using ancient squatter’s rights laws. Using the laws, once someone moves into a home, they must to an evicted even though they broke into the home. This can take months. He was attempting to upgrade his home for a larger model on the other side of the division when the neighbors from that area figured out what he was doing. They then proceeded to create a mob and began a demonstration outside of his house which is next door to me. Now the whole neighborhood is in fits over this issue. The police already know about the guy because he has been doing it for the past 15 years. But, he made a very big mistake. He began stealing appliances and furnaces from the new builds in the division. He now has felony warrants out for his arrest. He disappeared over the weekend but his wife is still there. She posted "no trespassing" signs and keeps a pitbull mutt outside. This neighborhood averages $160,000 to $200,000 which will buy you a 2400 to 2800 square foot house. Now it looks like a trailer park with the guard dog. I had no idea that someone could still claim squatter's rights in this day. Todd

A sad dayI live in Columbus and got hit by the same storm. That lightening was impressive! Todd

Blackouts continue...I live down in Columbus. We were right on the edge of the blackout zone. We don't usually lose our power in the summer though, only in the winter. Folks think it sucks now, they should go through a cold winter's night without power. Now that sucks! Todd

What an Interesting Afternoon! You could try contacting a local church for help. Most churches are more than willing to offer outreach and counseling services. Todd

Satelite TV Image QualityI have DirectTV and it looks crystal clear. Sound is also DVD quality. If we get a gully washing rain, then it may go out for a minute or so but that usually only happens 3 or 4 times a year. I actually have the DirectTV with TiVo built in. You can record two channels at once and be watching a recorded show at the same time. It is a nice setup. Todd

GIF or JIFI know the guys that created the GIF format. Even today they are frequently asked what the correct pronunciation is :). Here is their reply: For those who care, the correct pronunciation is "JIF", not as in "gift." Todd

Murder OneOne morning when I was in high school, I flipped on the morning news to hear that a classmate who was in my physical education class shot and killed a store owner in a robbery. This was back in 1985 or so. He was 17 and was tried as an adult. He slipped by the death penalty because of his age and received life with no parole.

One of the greatest honors bestowed upon meCool! I have a story to tell about Joe. Back around 1997, he came to the company I work at to teach a one week course on MFC. We went out for lunch and I drove. We ended up getting stuck in a traffic jam which made us both rather late getting back for the class. I felt bad because he had to walk into a classroom full of impatient students. But, I must say of all the classes I have taken, I enjoyed his the most! :) Todd

I just rented "Signs"I think that it would have been much better if they hadn't shown the alien at the end. Also, the water glasses and baseball bat on the wall made it too predictable.

microwave oven gets old?!Here is a scary story. I used to sell appliances which included microwaves. One day this guy comes in and wants this one model (and model year) of a microwave. We had it and wondering why the model year mattered, I asked him. He then explained to me how he takes out the mag tube and mounts it on a pole above his house. He then uses it to transmit his own TV station on channel 3. Turns out this one model had the right frequency. He found that it is cheaper to buy the microwave than go to a parts store as they burn up after about three months. Good thing he is not my neighbor!

Please step OUT of the car!!Where I live, you can sue for damages (i.e. loss of sleeep) in cases like this. It was put on the books for barking dogs but I would guess it would apply to horns as well. Grab a camcorder and record a few days worth and stop by the police station with tape in hand to file a report. Be sure to grab the license plate. I bet the horn blowing won't last much past that! Todd

JUST A QUESTION OF STANDARDSInteresting story but I am not sure it deserves being labeled as "We've always done it that way." The folks who carried on the tradition of the rail size were simply being efficient in their work by reusing existing ideas, tools and materials. Why reinvent things that work? Todd

Gephardt running..Yea, I know I am. I am a Democrat that voted for Bush. What in the world was I thinking?
