I never check it; it just rings. Mine has two lines - one for my use, the other for work. I pay the bill for my line and the company pays the bill for the work number. Since cell phones are the normal communication device for the company, we always have them set to ring, and nobody cares much if I take (or make) a personal call once in a while. Texting is acceptable for "some" of us, but it's discouraged for others. While it's useful for management, the people in the field are expected to do the tasks they're assigned without distractions. It isn't banned for anyone, however, and nobody minds the occasional text from a girlfriend or wife while working. In fact, since we use the phones for everything, and there are times when only text messages get through, it's handy to have for those of us who run things. The boss likes to know when the power goes out, even though phone service is also on the blink.
