  • Calendar Recommendations

I've got a web app I'm working on that allows users to view conference rooms and reserve rooms for certain days/times. We are wanting to add a "calendar" link that the user can click on for an event that is scheduled and add that event to their Outlook or G-mail calendar. That's not the tricky part. The tricky part is if an event is modified in any way (time changed, cancelled, location changed, etc) everyone who has "subscribed" to that event in their calendar should have their calendar event automatically updated. The guy who started coding this web app kept telling everybody he was going to use iCal. Unfortunately, he's not around anymore for me to ask questions of and he never actually started coding anything for this even though he told people he was almost done with it. I've looked at iCal and from what I can tell it is a Windows-based calendar server with a web front end. We are a Linux/java shop and I need something that has a web service to interface with from my java web app. Has anybody done something like this and have any recommendations?

How about some of the homemade grenades he booby-trapped his apartment with? He had over 30 of them in his apartment wired up to traps. What if he walked in and lobbed a half dozen grenades into the crowd. More than 12 people would have died. What's your argument now? How about we ban all of the items that could possibly be used to make explosive devices. There goes all modern technology, cleaning supplies, gardening supplies, gasoline/diesel. If people want to kill, they will find a way, regardless of how well regulated anything is.

I get this a couple of times a week. It's generally the day after I've increased the distance I run in the mornings or after I've upped the weight I lift at the gym. I think it's my body trying to cope with the new amount of exertion. You mentioned you have started riding your bicycle to work. Have you adjusted your daily calorie intake to account for this?

I run between 5:00 AM and 5:30 AM. I see on average 1 moving car and 10 moving deer a day when I'm running. I run with my large Australian Cattle Dog for protection from the boogeyman and the deer. I do worry more about personal safety than most people. I jog on the sidewalk which is about 3 feet from the road. It's a residential area so there are lots of parked cars along the street so I'm not worried a car will jump up onto the sidewalk and get me. I also wear a headlamp when jogging so I can see where I'm going and I look around quite frequently to make sure something's not stalking me. Really the biggest thing I have to worry about is rabid skunks. I'm not looking for noise-cancelling or sound isolating headphones. I just want a good pair of headphones that won't pop out of my ears, slide off my head, or break when sweated upon. Besides, if I don't wear headphones how will I hear the nice lady in my phone telling me how far I've gone and encouraging me to keep up the pace?

I definitely don't want noise cancelling or sound isolating headphones. I run on a road that's pretty low traffic, but I still want to be able to hear what's going on around me. I run with my dog for protection, but he's just a pup and doesn't alert me to danger yet.

I started exercising in January and have lost almost 20 pounds since. I have been using some JVC earbuds up until now. The memory foam ear pieces don't fit my ears well and as I'm running farther and longer it's getting very aggravating having to replace my earbuds every few minutes. I'm looking for something better.

I know programmers lead a very sedentary life and are not all that active. However, I know some of you are avid fitness buffs. I've decided to become less sedentary and more active and I've got a question about headphones. I'm looking for a good pair of headphones that will stay put when I'm running, are resistant to sweat, and sound decent. What do the savvy recommend? I've considered the Bose IE2, the Sennheiser 680 line, and various others. I'm looking more for wired headphones than wireless, if that makes a difference.
