Security through obscurity. Obfuscation won't do anything but slow down an attacker, and stop those with only a passing interest in your code. Once someone has your assemblies, and a sufficient amount of will power, its game over.

I seem to remember there is a good number of Curiosty Rover fans here, so I thought I'd share a video I made last night: http://youtu.be/3FH6QPAD-BU[^] This is a time lapse video created from the Raw Images available at http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl/multimedia/raw/[^]. It was created from using only Full Data Product images from the Front Left Hazcam, and shows the Rover's journey so far.
Quote:
Curiosity sends back raw images for current and prior Sols based on commands sent by the mission team. The rover uses orbiters to relay back a lot of its data, and maximizes each opportunity when they pass by overhead. Curiosity stores any data not transmitted onboard. The rover will send back this data on later Sols according to the mission team's science and engineering priorities. That means these pages update whenever data comes back. Images are filed in the Sol the rover took the picture, not the Sol on which the rover sent the image back to Earth.
So some Sol's don't have all their images yet, making the video a bit more jumpy in some places than others. I hope to update this from time to time as more pictures are downloaded from Curiosity.

I hope you realize that this is political satire, and not a factual news article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Borowitz[^]

If it was 8" long, it's probably a Koi. They're a type of carp, and are actually very hearty. I've seen plenty of Koi ponds freeze in the winter and the fish are just fine.

If I have to give out my name, email, phone number, and workplace to even view this "free" ebook... how is that free? Personal info is marketing currency, just because they don't put a dollar amount on it, doesn't mean it's free. If it's free, then they should not require anything in return. While this really isn't a big deal, I just find this type of practice to be dishonest. So in return, they will get false information.

Here's a Channel 9 video of the author, Erik Meijer, covering some of these topics as well: http://channel9.msdn.com/Series/Beckman-Meijer-Overdrive/Brian-Beckman-and-Erik-Meijer-What-is-a-database-really[^]

http://entityframework.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Contributing[^] They lay out the project guidelines, coding conventions, as well as a step-by-step for contributing. They also say that you should discuss it with the team to ensure it follows the road-map. After that, they will review and test before any type of merge.

What an amazing product. Another fun use is producing x-rays with it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_Tape#X-rays[^]

Newspapers and modems still exist? Next thing you know, they'll want to take away our hard candy and velcro shoes...

I like it! Good job! The only thing I really don't like though is on the front page. There is a lot of dead-space under the Latest Articles listing. It looks like the Product Showcase shoves the Latest News, Discussions, and Best Picks lower on the page. Makes for a lot of scrolling. Also, the footer looks kinda funny compared to the header now. Maybe if it went all the way across the page as well? The next big thing I'd love to see are more ajax updating on pages. It would be awesome if I could just leave the lounge open, and see conversations come in as they are posted rather than refreshing the page. Keep up the great work!

I never found anything that I liked that was both free and less of a pain than visual studio setup projects, especially when you get into more complex deployment scenarios. So if some of these other tools that have been suggested don't work out for you, here are some links to help you with the VS setup projects. Custom Actions to facilitate more complex installation tasks/scenarios: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/d9k65z2d(v=vs.100).aspx[^] Another thing that really helps in understanding the MSI's and fix any lingering issues is a tool delivered with the Microsoft SDK called Orca. This tool lets you view and manipulate MSI databases (helpful when you get into x86 and x64 mixing in the same setup): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255905[^] Also, if you have dependencies that need to be checked/installed prior to setup, you'll need to create a bootstrap manifest with this tool: http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/bmg[^] http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165429.aspx[^]

Didn't vote on it at all, but when I looked at it I too felt it was a bit of favoritism. You have many avenues at your disposal for announcements on this site. If it is industry news/announcements, I thought that's what the insider was for? If it's just for conversation, sure, the Lounge works. However, to make it a sticky in the lounge seemed like you were using the bully pulpit to shove it at us. I know you have said that you have done this type of thing before, and I vaguely recall some of them, but they are few and far between and extremely inconsistent. I think it is the inconsistency that bothers me more than the favoritism. If you want to notify people of important tech events, you have many options. Going straight to the sticky for these announcements seemed like overkill. (Also overkill because: were you even on the internet that day? did you not get bombarded by iPhone announcements everywhere you turned? I was sick of the iPhone 5 before it was even announced.) I think you should reserve sticky posts for "YOU MUST READ THIS NOW" type of posts, and not "YOU MAY FIND THIS OF SOME INTEREST" type of posts.

I was looking at this 'article' in the review queue: http://www.codeproject.com/script/Articles/ArticleVersion.aspx?waid=36443&aid=457982[^] At the top, it said that this is a new version of a currently published article. Following the link to the original shows that it is actually published as a Tip/Trick: Data Connector Library for PostgreSQL[^] If something is currently published as a Tip/Trick, then resubmitted as an Article, shouldn't the message say something like that? Not a big deal, it was just a bit confusing.
