Oops, gotta learn to do that reading thing... Netbeans does keep improving though, 6.9 has some really nice features that I don't think are part of Eclipse (granted I abandoned Eclipse a long time ago, so they may be part of it now). I have used it in both environments and it does seem a little slower in linux than in Windows, but for the features, and the fact that I don't have to go spelunking for useful plugins to make it work... I am willing to put up with a little bit of slowness once in a while (I find this is usually because it is doing its initial scan of a project).

Who does not use jQuery these days? While I tend to use it, it is frowned upon at my office as it is seen as bloat... They have written their own pile of global functions that they prefer to use... sigh

Mac is better than PCAmazing how this thread got so far off topic... but I figure I should step in here. You hit the + and it maximizes to _most_ of the screen... great... *Ahem* http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=2941[^]
Why Safari? Why didn’t you go after IE or Safari? It’s really simple. Safari on the Mac is easier to exploit. The things that Windows do to make it harder (for an exploit to work), Macs don’t do. Hacking into Macs is so much easier. You don’t have to jump through hoops and deal with all the anti-exploit mitigations you’d find in Windows. It’s more about the operating system than the (target) program. Firefox on Mac is pretty easy too. The underlying OS doesn’t have anti-exploit stuff built into it.
Calling Windows a Beetle means that it is more reliable and uses less resources. Yay!
We get a hundred miles to the gallon, if the fan belt breaks we use a rubber band!

Are we excited to get Windows 7Sounds more like the cd you were using was corrupted a bit... I have never had to install it more than once...

Because I paid! PERIOD
I totally paid for a bunch of windows 3.1 software... should I expect that to work on Windows 7?

The price of a pirated copy of Windows?I have friends who do send their system out to some 'guy' who loads the system up with the most recent copies of the pirated versions of what ever they have on their machines... I find it kind of sad...

The price of a pirated copy of Windows?Ah, so the person who installed these versions of XP is either an evil genius to have installed one that doesn't allow for updating... or he is just dumb

The price of a pirated copy of Windows?I have often wondered what the price tag is for running an ill-gotten operating system (like an illegal version of windows or what ever suits your fancy), especially for the non-tech savy. I understand that the upfront cost is very compelling (free) but what about all of those times that you have to send your computer into some 'guy' in his parents basement to fix your computer? How much will that cost you in the lifetime of the computer? Even at 20 dollars per 'fix', which I assume is a backup and reinstall of your stuff, it just doesn't seem to be worth the time and money, especially when you could just backup all of your stuff to cd/dvd/internal/external harddrive and do a clean install yourself. Not to mention that you probably can't run any of the updates for the OS leaving your computer wide open to attacks and/or little Johnny's spyware/cracks/viruses that are installed on your system to make it 'work'.

Overworked Junior [insert title here]Ah... but you misunderstood, or maybe I was not clear... I am not overworked... I was more curious if this was a normal practice or not, as at least one of my friends has fallen into it.

Overworked Junior [insert title here]I am new to the whole work world, but working 12 hours a day as a junior developer (or a junior anything really) seems excessive to me, especially when your employer has said that there might not be a job for you in 3 months because there might be no work... Is that a scare tactic employers usually use on the new guys to make the most profit? How many people have fallen for that? Sure you can program and learn for many hours a day, reading and practising things, but is it fair to be scared into working that many hours at the lowest pay grade in your office?

I (not) heart *nixBecause you were raised in a Windows world ;P (to be fair, so was I, but now every time I open command prompt in Windows I get really annoyed that I have to drag the file over or select the paste option from a drop-down menu...). I love the freedom to paste into the terminal at any time (you can't even do that in cygwin). ^V... wow, useful (and shift-insert gives you a ~... that makes sense). I don't understand why the command prompt has to be so un-user friendly (user un-friendly?)! No wonder people are so intimidated by it...
-
I (not) heart *nixCould you not just write a bit of code to intercept the "manual" command and send it on to "man" if you really really wanted to? I would just like to add that at least you can paste stuff into the command prompt with out right clicking and selecting paste. Stupid Windows...

Apple Does not 'Just work'Aha, I knew it was a scam... at least on vista you don't have to put your password in all the time... you just have to click "Yes I want to run this malicious program". I have a couple of friends who switched in university, they are happy for the most part. I still laugh when they have a problem and point out that I have never had that problem with XP, Vista or Ubuntu. The other funny part is that one refuses to update to Leopard because it will break things that he finally got working the way he wanted them to... thats just a .x update... so sad...
